Our verdict

Legacy of Egypt is built around one moment: the wheel that decides how many free spins you get, followed by a new multiplier on every spin. Pyramid Spins add a second layer that locks in a good multiplier for several spins. With 30 fixed lines and a 96.50% default RTP, it plays smoother than the ten-line expanding symbol games, but a short wheel result can end the bonus quickly.

What we like
  • Every free spin carries a multiplier of x2, x3, x5, x8 or x10
  • Pyramid Spins keep the multiplier that triggered them
  • 30 fixed lines spread wins across more combinations
  • 5,000x cap on a 0.30 to 90 bet range
Keep in mind
  • The wheel can award as few as 3 free spins
  • No gamble or bonus buy option
  • Operators may run builds down to 84.50% RTP

What Legacy of Egypt is

Play'n GO released Legacy of Egypt on 24 April 2018. The reels sit between painted pillars with the pyramids behind them, and the symbols are Egyptian rulers and gods: a queen, a pharaoh, Ra, Anubis, the crocodile god Sobek and the lioness Sekhmet, followed by card royals. A scarab is the wild and a pyramid is the scatter.

The format is a five-reel, three-row video slot with 30 paylines that are always active. You pay one coin per line, so the only thing you change is the coin value. The appeal is in the bonus: a wheel decides how many free spins you get, every free spin carries its own multiplier, and a rare symbol combination opens Pyramid Spins inside the round.

It should not be confused with Legacy of Dead, a later Play'n GO release with a ten-line expanding symbol design. The two share a word in the name and an Egyptian setting, nothing more.

How a spin works, step by step

  1. Pick a coin value between 0.01 and 3.00. With 30 fixed lines and one coin per line, your total bet runs from 0.30 to 90.
  2. Press spin. Five reels stop on a 5x3 window.
  3. All 30 lines are checked from the leftmost reel. A win needs three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels starting from reel one.
  4. The scarab wild substitutes for every symbol except the pyramid scatter. It also has its own pays.
  5. Only the highest win on each line is paid, and all line wins are added together.
  6. Three or more pyramids anywhere on the screen pay a scatter win and start the Wheel of the Gods.

Because every symbol needs at least three of a kind, small two-symbol hits do not exist here. The 30 lines make up for it: on a three-row screen, lines cross each position several times, so one good cluster of premiums can pay on several lines at once.

Symbols and paytable

Play'n GO's rules sheet prints the paytable in money at a 1.50 stake, which means 0.05 per line. The table below uses those values. Divide by 1.50 to get the multiple of your total bet, or by 0.05 for the multiple of the line bet.

Symbol5 of a kind4 of a kind3 of a kind
Scarab (wild)25.005.001.50

Anubis6.251.250.50
Sobek and Sekhmet5.001.250.50
Card royals2.501.000.25
Pyramid scatter, 3 or more7.50

Two things stand out. Five wilds on one line pay 25.00 at this stake, about 16.7 times the total bet, which is modest for a top symbol. And the scatter is listed at 7.50 for three, four or five pyramids, five times the total bet on its own before the bonus even starts. The base game is about steady small returns; the real money is in the multiplied free spins.

Wheel of the Gods: how many free spins you get

Three or more pyramids do not award a fixed number of free spins. Instead the Wheel of the Gods spins and lands on 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 15 or 20. The free spins are played at the same bet as the triggering spin.

The provider does not publish how often each wheel segment comes up, so treat any claim about an average number of spins with caution. What you can say for sure is that the range is wide. A 3-spin result leaves little room for the multipliers to work, while a 20-spin result gives you twenty separate multiplied spins.

Multipliers on every free spin

At the start of each free spin a multiplier is drawn at random from x2, x3, x5, x8 and x10 and shown above the reels. It changes on every spin, and it applies to that spin's wins. The values are discrete, so there is no x4 or x6: every spin is worth at least double, and sometimes ten times, the same result in the base game.

This is a different kind of bonus from the expanding symbol games. There is no single symbol that needs to land in big numbers. Any normal line win can become a strong result if it lands on the right spin. It also means the bonus pays out in smaller, more frequent pieces: a round of ten spins can return several multiplied line wins instead of depending on one big hit at the end.

Pyramid Spins: a bonus inside the bonus

During free spins, two Wild Scatter symbols on the same spin award Pyramid Spins. The Wheel of the Gods turns again, this time with values from 3 to 8. Each Pyramid Spin keeps the multiplier of the free spin that triggered it, so a trigger on an x10 spin gives you several x10 spins in a row.

  • Three Wild Scatters on the triggering spin double the wheel values, giving 6 to 16 Pyramid Spins.
  • Pyramid Spins can be triggered again from within Pyramid Spins under the same conditions.
  • When the Pyramid Spins end, any remaining regular free spins continue with their usual changing multiplier.

The help screen in some regulated markets describes the trigger as two or more Wild Scatters and does not mention the doubled wheel, so read the exact wording in your casino's version of the rules.

Worked examples at a 1.50 stake

  • Free spin with an x5 multiplier, five pharaohs on one line: 12.50 x 5 = 62.50, about 42 times the stake from a single line.
  • Free spin with x2, three Anubis on two lines: 0.50 + 0.50 = 1.00, doubled to 2.00. Most multiplied spins look like this.
  • Pyramid Spins triggered on an x8 spin, the wheel shows 5. You get five spins in a row at x8. A four-of-a-kind Ra line on one of them pays 2.00 x 8 = 16.00.
  • Top of the range. Wins are capped at 5,000 times the stake, which is 7,500.00 at 1.50 and 450,000 at the top bet of 90.

The examples show where the variance comes from: a good bonus needs a long wheel result and big multipliers landing on the spins that also carry premium wins. Pyramid Spins are the one way to line those up on purpose.

RTP and volatility

The default RTP is 96.50%, and the live help in regulated markets shows the same figure. Operators can choose lower builds at 94.50%, 91.50%, 87.50% or 84.50%; the lower three are not allowed for operators licensed in Malta. The game has no gamble feature and no bonus buy, so the RTP is the same whichever way you play.

Play'n GO treats the game as high volatility. The 30 lines soften the base game a little, but the share of the return locked inside the wheel bonus is large, and the wheel alone can decide whether a bonus lasts 3 spins or 20. If you like the Egyptian setting but prefer a single growing symbol, compare it with Rise of Merlin, which runs the expanding symbol format on ten lines.

Testing it in the demo and reading the rules

The free demo on this page runs the provider's practice build. Play a few hundred spins and write down each wheel result and the multipliers you see. That simple log shows how much of a bonus depends on the first wheel spin.

At a real money casino, open the help screen first and check:

  • The RTP line: 96.50% is the default, anything lower is a reduced build.
  • The exact Pyramid Spins wording for your market.
  • The coin values available, since the operator sets the bet range.

With the minimum bet at 0.30 per spin, choose a coin value that leaves room for at least 200 spins in your budget. Play only with money you can afford to lose, and only where online casino play is legal for adults.
