A festival slot on nine cells
Onlyplay put Day of Muerte out on 3 October 2024, a few weeks before Mexico's festival for the departed. A Catrina in skull face paint and a broad flowered hat greets you at the start, and the reels are full of festival music and party gear: brass, shakers, a guitar, candles, a big straw hat and cut-paper flags, all against a graveyard glowing with candlelight. Beside the reels hang three wooden plates showing 1,000, 150 and 25. Those are the jackpots, written as multiples of your stake.
Behind the decoration, the game is short and simple:
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Layout | 3 reels, 3 rows, 5 fixed lines |
| RTP | 95.00%, given on Onlyplay's page and in the in-game rules |
| Volatility | Medium |
| Top payout | 4,103x the stake, ₦410,300 at ₦100 |
| Features | Wild in the base game, one respin round |
| Not included | Free spins, bonus buy, ante option |
How the base game pays
All five lines are live on every spin. A line wins when three matching symbols run along it from left to right; each line pays only its best result, and every winning line is added to the total. The Wild shows up in the base game and fills in for any symbol except the specials.
Onlyplay's demo server lists eight paying symbols as multiples of the whole stake, without names, so we rank them. Here they are in naira at two common stakes:
| Symbol rank | Line value | At ₦50 | At ₦150 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top | 50x | ₦2,500 | ₦7,500 |
| Second | 30x | ₦1,500 | ₦4,500 |
| Third | 20x | ₦1,000 | ₦3,000 |
| Fourth and fifth | 10x | ₦500 | ₦1,500 |
| Sixth to eighth | 2x | ₦100 | ₦300 |
Nothing on this table pays below double the stake, which is rare for a three-reel slot. The flip side is that all three cells of a line must agree, so plenty of spins finish empty. When the whole grid shows one symbol, all five lines win together: five times 50x makes 250x, or ₦37,500 at ₦150. That is the best a single base spin can do.
What starts the respins
You need three specials in one spin, one on each reel. The start screen in the game says exactly that. The collecting special, the one that gathers the money later, appears only on the middle reel, so the centre column is usually the missing link. Two outer specials with an ordinary symbol in the middle is a common sight and means nothing for the next spin.
The respin round, piece by piece
When the specials line up, the reels switch to bonus mode. Three bonus symbols are already in place, and from then on only these can land:
- Value symbols on any reel. Each carries one of five amounts, from 1x up to 15x the triggering stake, or else one of the three wooden plates.
- Accumulative symbols on the middle reel only. They stay put and soak up the values.
- Blank symbols on any reel. They take up space, pay nothing and give no extra respins.
You start with three respins. Any fresh value or collector landing restores the count to three; a blank does not. When the counter runs out, everything held by the accumulative symbols is added to your win. All values are fixed to the stake of the triggering spin.
The plates at the stakes Nigerian players use most:
| Wooden plate | Multiple | At ₦100 | At ₦300 | At ₦500 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mini | 25x | ₦2,500 | ₦7,500 | ₦12,500 |
| Major | 150x | ₦15,000 | ₦45,000 | ₦75,000 |
| Grand | 1,000x | ₦100,000 | ₦300,000 | ₦500,000 |
The plates on screen update live when you change the stake, so you can see the naira figure before you spin.
Two rounds compared at ₦300
A quiet round. The collector lands in the centre. One respin brings a 2x value, worth ₦600, and resets the count. Then a blank, a blank and a 5x value worth ₦1,500, another reset. Three blanks finish it. Total 7x, or ₦2,100. This is what many rounds look like.
A loud round. Same start, but the first respin lands a 15x value, ₦4,500. Two respins later a Mini plate arrives, 25x or ₦7,500. Late on, with the counter at one, a 10x value lands and buys three more respins, and on the second of them the Major plate drops in, 150x or ₦45,000. Three blanks close it. Total 15 + 25 + 10 + 150 = 200x, or ₦60,000.
The difference between the two is almost entirely the plates. Small values keep the round going; the plates decide whether it was worth the wait. Notice also how the late 10x value rescued the second round when the counter was about to run out. That last-moment extension happens often and is what makes the round tense to watch.
Day of Muerte and Clown Coins: same engine
Onlyplay's official config for this game matches Clown Coins number for number: the same line pays, coin values, jackpot multiples, 95.00% return and 4,103x ceiling. The circus version arrived six months earlier, in April 2024, with a night funfair look. Day of Muerte replaces the clowns with a Mexican festival. Anyone who knows the circus game will find nothing new in the rules here. Choose the look you enjoy more, since neither pays better than the other.
Reading the screen during a round
Respin rounds go fast, and on a phone it is easy to lose track. Three things deserve your eyes. First, the respin counter: it drops by one after every respin that brings nothing and resets to three when something useful lands. Second, the middle column: the accumulative symbols there hold the money, so a round with two of them in the centre is shaping up better than one with a single collector. Third, the empty cells: the fewer that remain, the fewer chances there are for a plate to appear.
Blank symbols are the trap. They look like progress because the grid fills up, but they add neither value nor time. A grid half full of blanks with the counter at one is close to finished. A grid with fewer pieces but a fresh counter of three still has life in it. Watching a few rounds in the free demo makes this pattern easy to recognise before real naira is involved.
Return, risk and limits
At 95.00% RTP, ₦100,000 staked returns ₦95,000 in theory over a very long run. A 96% game would hand back ₦96,000, so the extra cost here is about ₦1,000 per ₦100,000. Medium volatility means the swings sit between the calm of a low-risk slot and the long droughts of the wild ones. The rules also let an operator set a Maximum Win For One Bet in the game limits, and that figure may be lower than the 4,103x Onlyplay quotes, so high-stake players should look it up. Autoplay halts when the respin round starts.
Session plan from Nigeria
- Choose spins first, stake second. With ₦15,000, ₦75 a spin gives 200 spins; ₦150 a spin gives 100 spins with every plate worth twice as much.
- Expect line wins of 2x to 10x most of the time. The 250x full screen and the Grand plate are rare.
- Do not read anything into near misses. Two outer specials without the middle one are part of the design.
- Stop on a plan, not a feeling. Decide how much and how long before the first spin, and keep to both.
- State rules. Since the Supreme Court judgment of November 2024, gambling in Nigeria is regulated state by state. Use an operator licensed for your state, play only at 18 or older and never get around a block.
Other respin games to try
Caucasian Wolf, also from Onlyplay, pays each full screen in its respin round and doubles a multiplier as it goes. For fixed jackpots on a five-reel layout, Wolf Gold is the well-known reference. The free demo above lets you test Day of Muerte with play credits, and our demo guide lists what to watch: how often the middle special lands, how much a typical round gathers and what the RTP line in the rules says.

Questions Nigerian players ask
When did Day of Muerte come out?
Onlyplay released it on 3 October 2024, in the run-up to the festival it is named after. It is a 3x3 slot with 5 fixed lines, a Wild and a respin round with wooden plate jackpots.
What return does Day of Muerte offer?
Onlyplay lists 95.00%, matched by the rules in the game, with medium volatility and a top payout of 4,103x the stake, ₦410,300 at ₦100.
How do I trigger the respin round?
Land a special on reel 1, reel 2 and reel 3 at once. The collecting special only appears on the middle reel. The round then starts with three respins.
What is each plate worth at ₦100?
The Mini plate is ₦2,500 (25x), the Major ₦15,000 (150x) and the Grand ₦100,000 (1,000x), always based on the stake that triggered the round.
What do blank symbols do in the bonus?
They fill a position but carry no value and do not reset the respin counter. If only blanks land, the counter keeps falling until the round ends.
Is Day of Muerte a copy of Clown Coins?
Onlyplay's config gives both games the same pays, bonus values, plates, RTP and ceiling. Clown Coins came first with a funfair look; Day of Muerte uses a Day of the Dead festival.
Is Day of Muerte legal to play in Nigeria?
Gambling has been regulated by each state since the Supreme Court ruling of November 2024. Use an operator licensed for your state and play only at 18 or older. The demo is free.
