What Day of Muerte is
Day of Muerte is a classic three-reel slot from Onlyplay, released on 3 October 2024 ahead of the Day of the Dead season. It has three rows, five fixed paylines, an RTP of 95.00% stated both on Onlyplay's game page and in the rules inside the game, medium volatility and a maximum win of 4,103x the bet.
The art leans on Mexican festival imagery. A Catrina with a skull-painted face and a wide flower-trimmed hat fronts the game, and the reels hold trumpets, maracas, a guitar, candles, a sombrero and papel picado banners in front of a candlelit cemetery. Three wooden plates to the left of the reels show the jackpots of the Bonus Game: Grand 1,000, Major 150 and Mini 25, all multiples of your bet.
How a spin works, step by step
- You choose the bet; all five lines are active on every spin.
- The reels stop and lines are read from left to right. Three matching symbols on a line make a win.
- The Wild appears in the main game and substitutes for all symbols except the specials.
- Only the best combination on each line is paid, and the line wins are added together.
- Three specials, one on reel 1, one on reel 2 and one on reel 3, start the Bonus Game.
The in-game start screen sums it up in one line: three specials on reels 1, 2 and 3 start the bonus. The accumulative special can only land on reel 2, so the middle reel holds the key piece of every trigger.
Paytable
The values come from Onlyplay's demo server, which sends them as multiples of the total bet. Symbol names are not given as text, so we list the eight paying symbols in order of value.
| Rank | 3 on a line (x total bet) | At 0.50 | At 1.00 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top symbol | 50x | 25.00 | 50.00 |
| 2nd | 30x | 15.00 | 30.00 |
| 3rd | 20x | 10.00 | 20.00 |
| 4th and 5th | 10x each | 5.00 | 10.00 |
| 6th to 8th | 2x each | 1.00 | 2.00 |
The structure is unusual for a three-reel game: no symbol pays less than double the stake, and five of the eight sit at 10x or more. The trade-off is that a win needs all three cells of a line to match, so many spins end with nothing. A spin that lands two lines of the 10x symbols returns 20x, and a full screen of the top symbol would win on all five lines for 250x.
The Bonus Game in detail
Once the three specials are in place, the grid switches to bonus mode. The Bonus Game always starts with three bonus symbols on the reels, and from then on only three kinds of symbol can land:
| Symbol type | Reels | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Value symbol | 1, 2 and 3 | Worth 1x, 2x, 5x, 10x or 15x the bet, or a wooden plate jackpot |
| Accumulative symbol | Reel 2 only | Sticks and collects the values of the value symbols |
| Blank symbol | 1, 2 and 3 | No value and no extra respins |
- The round begins with 3 respins, which play automatically.
- Every new value or accumulative symbol sets the counter back to 3.
- Values are drawn at random from 1x, 2x, 5x, 10x and 15x the bet that triggered the bonus.
- Wooden plate jackpots can land as well: Mini 25x, Major 150x and Grand 1,000x.
- When the respins run out, the values held by the accumulative symbols are added to the total win.
Reading the bonus while it plays
The respin round moves quickly, so it helps to know where to look. The respin counter is the number that matters most: it drops by one after every empty respin and jumps back to three whenever a value or accumulative symbol lands. Reel 2 is the second focus, because the accumulative symbols there are the ones holding the money. Blank symbols are easy to mistake for progress; they fill cells without adding value or time.
A useful habit is to note the counter on the last respin. If it reads one and the grid still has empty cells, a single landed value symbol extends the round by three more respins. That is why bonus rounds in this game often end in bursts: one late value symbol can add three respins, and those can bring further symbols in turn.
A worked bonus example
Say you trigger the bonus at 0.50. The accumulative symbol sits on reel 2. Respin one brings a 10x value, worth 5.00, and the counter resets. After one empty respin a 1x value lands (0.50), then a blank, then a 5x value (2.50). Two respins later a Major plate appears, worth 150x or 75.00. Three empty respins close the round.
Collected total: 5.00 + 0.50 + 2.50 + 75.00 = 83.00, which is 166x the 0.50 stake. Without the Major plate the same round would have returned 8.00, or 16x. That gap explains how this bonus behaves: most rounds pay modest sums, and the plates decide the big ones.
Jackpot values at common stakes
| Wooden plate | Multiplier | At 0.50 | At 2.00 | At 10.00 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mini | 25x | 12.50 | 50.00 | 250.00 |
| Major | 150x | 75.00 | 300.00 | 1,500.00 |
| Grand | 1,000x | 500.00 | 2,000.00 | 10,000.00 |
The plates show these amounts live as you change the stake, so you always know what the Grand is worth before you spin.
Day of Muerte versus Clown Coins
Onlyplay's official data shows the two games share their numbers: the same 95.00% RTP, the same 4,103x maximum win, the same eight-symbol paytable and the same bonus values and jackpot multipliers. Even the rules files follow one template. Clown Coins came first in April 2024 with a funfair theme; Day of Muerte applies the same game to a Day of the Dead setting. If you already know one, you know how the other plays, and the choice comes down to which theme you prefer.
Costs, limits and options
There is no bonus buy, no ante bet and no free spins round, so the stake is the only setting that changes your costs. At 95.00% the theoretical cost is 5.00 per 100.00 wagered. The rules also allow operators to cap total winnings from a single bet with a Maximum Win For One Bet amount, which appears in the game limits section. Autoplay stops automatically when the Bonus Game begins.
Planning a session
Because the lowest line win is 2x and the bonus carries the big prizes, budget for the bonus rather than for line wins. Pick a number of spins you are happy to play, then set the stake. With a 50.00 budget, 0.25 per spin gives 200 spins and a Grand worth 250.00; 0.50 per spin gives 100 spins and a Grand worth 500.00. The RTP is the same either way, but the shorter session ends sooner if the specials stay away.
Keep in mind that the 4,103x maximum is the provider's ceiling, not a target. Line wins top out at 250x for a full screen, so anything near the ceiling has to come from an exceptional bonus round. Most sessions will be shaped by a handful of ordinary bonuses and line wins of 2x to 10x.
How it compares
If you like respins with a twist, Caucasian Wolf pays out every full screen and doubles a multiplier each time. For fixed jackpots on a classic five-reel layout, Wolf Gold is the standard comparison.
Testing it in the demo
Load the official Onlyplay demo from the block on this page; the demo guide explains free play. Worth checking:
- How often a special lands on reel 2, since that piece completes most triggers.
- How many value symbols a typical bonus gathers.
- The plate amounts at the stake you intend to use.
- The RTP printed in the rules screen.
Decide on a loss limit and a time limit before playing for money. Each spin is independent of the last.
