Our take

Clown Coins is a neat money-collect machine squeezed onto nine cells. Line wins never drop below 2x, which keeps a balance ticking, and the bonus has a clear, single goal: fill the collector and hope for the Grand. The 95% return and the reel 2 bottleneck are the prices you pay for that simplicity.

Strong points
  • The cheapest line win is still 2x your stake
  • Jackpot coins of 25x, 150x and 1,000x inside the respins
  • Every new coin puts the respin counter back to three
  • Top payout of 4,103x on a medium volatility game
Watch out for
  • RTP stops at 95.00%
  • The collector symbol only lands on reel 2, which slows triggers
  • No free spins round and no bonus buy

Under the big top

Clown Coins reached casino lobbies on 17 April 2024, made by the Onlyplay studio. A clown with bright green hair grins over a striped circus tent at night, the reels hold clown faces, a toy car and other circus props, and three chests marked Mini, Major and Grand wait at the left side. Those chests are what the whole game is built around.

Key figures, as Onlyplay publishes them:

  • 3 reels by 3 rows, 5 fixed lines
  • RTP 95.00%, the same in the game page and the rules file
  • Medium volatility
  • Highest payout 4,103x the stake
  • One Wild, one respin feature, no free spins and no buy

The base game

Each spin plays all five lines across the nine cells, and the lines screen in the game draws their exact routes. A win needs three of the same symbol along a line from the left. Only the best win on each line counts, and the lines are added up. The Wild copies whichever symbol produces the larger payout on that line. Because the lines cross each other, one Wild in the middle cell can finish two or three wins on the same spin.

The respin round starts when a bonus symbol lands on each of the three reels together. Here is the catch: one of those bonus pieces, the collector that the game text names Power Bonus, appears on reel 2 only. In practice the middle reel is usually the one you are waiting for.

What each symbol pays in naira

Onlyplay's demo server sends the pays as multiples of the full stake. We checked this against demo spins: a 2x line returned 1.00 on a 0.50 stake. The eight symbols have no published names, so here they are by rank, priced at ₦100 a spin:

Symbol rankThree on a lineOne line at ₦100Full grid at ₦100
First50x₦5,000₦25,000
Second30x₦3,000₦15,000
Third20x₦2,000₦10,000
Fourth and fifth10x₦1,000₦5,000
Sixth to eighth2x₦200₦1,000

A grid covered by one symbol hits all five lines, so it pays five times the line value. That makes 250x, or ₦25,000 at ₦100, the base game's best possible spin. The table also shows why this slot feels friendlier than many three-reel games: the cheapest line hands back double the stake, and five of the eight symbols pay 10x or more. The server data shows no separate value for three Wilds in a line.

Inside the respin round

When the round begins, the reels change and only three kinds of symbol can appear:

  • Clown Coin. Lands on any reel. Worth 1x, 2x, 5x, 10x or 15x your stake, or it shows a jackpot instead.
  • Power Bonus. Lands on reel 2 only. It stays in place and soaks up the value of the coins.
  • Mask. Lands anywhere and is simply a blank. It pays nothing and does not refresh the counter.

You get three respins. A new Clown Coin or Power Bonus sets the counter back to three; a Mask does not. When the counter reaches zero, the totals held by every Power Bonus are added to your win. All values use the stake of the spin that started the round, so changing your bet afterwards makes no difference.

Coin and jackpot values at stakes Nigerian players commonly use:

Grand 1,000x₦50,000₦100,000₦200,000₦1,000,000

A round followed at ₦200

The round opens with the Power Bonus parked in the middle column. Respin one: a 10x coin, counter back to three. Second: a Mask, counter at two. Third: a 1x coin, reset again. Then two blanks, then a Major chest coin, another reset. A 2x coin follows on the next respin and resets once more, after which three empty respins close the round.

The collector holds 10 + 1 + 150 + 2 = 163x. At ₦200 that is ₦32,600. Had a Grand chest landed where the Major did, the round would have paid 10 + 1 + 1,000 + 2 = 1,013x, or ₦202,600. One coin decides almost the whole result, which is how a medium volatility slot can still list a 4,103x ceiling.

Small print worth knowing

  • Masks can end a round. If the last respin brings only a Mask, the round is over, since Masks do not refresh the count.
  • Payment arrives at the end. Coins do not pay one by one; the collected total is added when no respins remain.
  • Autoplay stops when the round starts, so you will see the respins play out.
  • Operator caps. Operators can set their own ceiling per stake, listed in the game limits as Maximum Win For One Bet. If it is lower than 4,103x, it applies, so higher-stake players should read the limits screen.

Why reel 2 matters so much

On most respin slots, any three or six bonus symbols anywhere will do. Here the trigger asks for one piece per reel, and the middle one has to be the collector or a bonus piece that only reel 2 carries. So you will often see two outer reels showing bonus pieces while the centre reel shows an ordinary symbol. That near miss is normal and tells you nothing about the next spin.

The same reel decides the size of the prize once the round is running. Coins on reels 1 and 3 are only worth something because a collector on reel 2 gathers them. A round with a single collector and a handful of coins pays modest money; a round where extra Power Bonus pieces land in the middle column keeps the respins alive longer and gathers more. Watch that column first whenever a round starts, both in the demo and later with real naira.

The cost of a 95% game

RTP is the long-run share of stakes that comes back; our RTP guide has the details. At 95.00%, every ₦100,000 staked costs ₦5,000 in theory. A 96% slot would cost ₦4,000 on the same play, so Clown Coins takes about ₦1,000 extra per ₦100,000. Over 1,000 spins at ₦100 that is the price of a decent lunch. Not a deal-breaker for a short session, but a reason not to make this your only game. The volatility guide covers how far one session can drift from the average.

Clown Coins next to Day of Muerte

Onlyplay later released Day of Muerte, and its official config shows the same tables: identical line pays, coin values, jackpot multiples and RTP. The difference is the art. Clown Coins has a funfair at night, Day of Muerte has Mexican sugar skulls and marigolds. Pick whichever theme you prefer; the maths will not reward one over the other. For a respin game on five reels instead of three, Wolf Gold is the classic reference, and Caucasian Wolf from Onlyplay runs a respin bonus with a doubling multiplier.

Planning a session

  • Budget in spins. ₦10,000 at ₦50 gives 200 spins; at ₦100 it gives 100. The jackpots double with the higher stake, the session halves.
  • Watch reel 2 in the demo. Count how often the collector lands there compared with bonus pieces on the outside reels. That is the real trigger rate you are playing against.
  • Note what a typical round collects before the respins run out. Most rounds end well short of a jackpot.
  • Never chase a chest. A long gap since the last round does not make the next one closer.
  • Licence and age. Since the Supreme Court judgment of November 2024, each Nigerian state regulates gambling on its own. Use an operator licensed for your state, play only at 18 or older and never bypass a block.

The official demo on this page is free, and the demo guide lists other things to test.

Questions Nigerian players ask

Which studio built Clown Coins?

Onlyplay launched it on 17 April 2024. It is a 3x3 circus-themed slot with 5 fixed lines, a Wild and a coin-collecting respin round.

What RTP does Clown Coins run?

Both Onlyplay's page and the rules inside the game give 95.00%, with medium volatility and a top payout of 4,103x the stake.

How do I start the respin round?

You need a bonus piece on reel 1, reel 2 and reel 3 together. Because the Power Bonus collector is limited to the centre reel, that column is usually what holds you back.

How much are the coins worth at ₦100?

Regular coins pay ₦100, ₦200, ₦500, ₦1,000 or ₦1,500. Jackpot coins pay ₦2,500 for Mini, ₦15,000 for Major and ₦100,000 for Grand.

What does the Mask symbol do?

Nothing useful. It fills a space in the respin round but carries no value and does not refresh the respin counter.

Is Clown Coins the same game as Day of Muerte?

Onlyplay's official config shows identical paytables, coin values, jackpots and RTP for both. Only the theme differs: a night funfair here, a Day of the Dead festival in Day of Muerte.

Can I play Clown Coins legally in Nigeria?

Since the Supreme Court ruling of November 2024, gambling is regulated by each state. Use an operator licensed for your state and play only at 18 or older. The demo costs nothing.
