Our verdict

Chilli Heat is a clean, readable money respin slot: you always know which jackpots are on offer and how close you are to the Grande. Free spins with only premium symbols give it a second route to decent wins. Line pays are small, though, so most of the excitement depends on six money symbols landing together.

What we like
  • Fixed jackpots of 30x, 100x and 1,000x, visible from the first spin
  • Free spins use special reels with only the top symbols
  • Money Respin can also trigger inside free spins
  • Published 96.50% RTP and a medium volatility rating
Keep in mind
  • Top line win is 8x the bet, so the base game pays in small steps
  • No bonus buy or ante bet
  • Pragmatic does not publish an overall maximum win

What Chilli Heat is

Chilli Heat is a Pragmatic Play slot built around a street party in Mexico: bright houses, bunting and a guitar-playing host in a sombrero. Under the decoration it is a classic money respin game. The grid is five reels by three rows, there are 25 fixed paylines, and a money symbol on every reel can carry cash values or a jackpot label.

Pragmatic lists the RTP at 96.50% on its game page, and the demo server reports the same figure. The rules describe the game as medium volatility, meaning steady pays with an occasional much larger result. The game went on to earn sequels, including Chilli Heat Megaways in 2021, but this guide covers the original 5x3 version.

One honest gap: Pragmatic does not publish an overall maximum win for this game, so we do not quote one. What is fixed and public is the jackpot ladder, which tops out at 1,000x your bet.

How a spin works, step by step

  1. You choose a total bet. It always covers all 25 lines.
  2. The reels stop and line wins are counted from the leftmost reel on adjacent reels. Only the highest win per line is paid, and all line wins are added up.
  3. The wild substitutes for every symbol except the scatter and the money symbol. On the game's own reel strips, wilds come in stacks on reels 2 to 5.
  4. Three scatters, which land only on reels 2, 3 and 4, pay 1x your total bet and award free spins.
  5. If six or more money symbols are on screen once the line wins are paid, the Money Respin starts.

Symbols and paytable

Pragmatic's demo server lists the line pays in coins. With 25 coins making up the total bet, they convert to these multiples of your total bet:

Symbol rank5 of a kind4 of a kind3 of a kind
Premium 18x2x0.4x
Premium 26x1.2x0.2x
Premium 35x1x0.2x
Premium 44x1x0.2x
Four card symbols2x0.4x0.2x
Scatter (3 on reels 2, 3, 4)1x total bet plus 8 free spins

The numbers are low on purpose. Five of the best symbol on one line pays 8x, and a three-symbol hit on a card line returns a fifth of your bet. Line wins exist mostly to soften losing streaks. At a 1.00 bet, three separate 3-of-a-kind card lines add up to 0.60. The real value sits in the money symbol and in free spins, where the stacked wilds can connect premium symbols across several lines at once.

The money symbol and the Money Respin

The money symbol can land on any reel. Each time it shows up it carries one value from a fixed set: 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 10x, 14x, 16x, 18x, 20x, 24x, 30x or 100x your total bet. It can also show the Mini or Major jackpot. Six or more of them in one spin trigger the respin round, a straightforward money collect design:

  • Normal symbols disappear and only the money symbols that triggered the feature stay. The reels change to special reels holding only money symbols and empty spaces.
  • You start with 3 respins. Every new money symbol sticks in place, and each time at least one lands, the counter goes back to 3.
  • The round ends when the respins run out or every one of the 15 positions is filled.
  • All visible values are then added up and paid. Fill the whole grid and the Grande jackpot is added on top.

The jackpots are fixed multiples of your bet: Mini 30x, Major 100x and Grande 1,000x. There are no multipliers in the round; the payout is a plain sum.

Worked example: a Money Respin at a 2.00 bet

Six money symbols land showing 3x, 1x, 6x, 2x, 4x and 10x, worth 26x together. The first respin adds a 5x symbol and resets the counter to 3. One respin later a Major lands, which resets it again. Three empty respins follow and the round ends with eight symbols: 3 + 1 + 6 + 2 + 4 + 10 + 5 + 100 = 131x. At a 2.00 bet, that pays 262.00.

Compare that with a full grid. Fifteen symbols averaging 6x would be worth 90x on their own. Add the 1,000x Grande and the total becomes 1,090x, or 2,180.00 at the same 2.00 bet. That jump explains why the last empty positions feel so tense: they are worth far more as a set than any single value on the board.

Free spins with premium symbols

Three scatters on reels 2, 3 and 4 pay 1x your bet and award 8 free spins. Special reels are used for the round, and among the regular symbols only the highest-paying ones are present on them. Taking the card symbols out raises the share of premium line hits on every spin.

Three more scatters during the round add another 8 spins, and the rules set no limit on retriggers. The Money Respin stays available too, so one bonus can contain both features. A good free spins round in Chilli Heat usually comes from stacked wilds on the middle reels joining premium symbols across many lines in a single spin.

Here is how that looks in numbers. Say you play at 1.00 and reels 2, 3 and 4 all fill with wild stacks. Every one of the 25 lines now runs through three wilds, so whatever sits on reels 1 and 5 decides the result. If one Premium 1 symbol lands on reel 1 and two on reel 5, each line that starts on that reel 1 position and ends on one of those reel 5 positions pays 8x. Even lines that end on a different premium still pay the 4 of a kind value of 2x. Two to four 8x lines in one spin are worth 16.00 to 32.00 at a 1.00 bet, which is why stacked wilds matter more in this round than in the base game, where card symbols dilute the reels.

Bankroll and stake sizing

Medium volatility means fewer long droughts than a high-volatility game, but the base game still pays in small amounts. A few habits help:

  • Plan for a few hundred spins. With 150.00 and a 0.50 bet you have 300 spins before any wins return.
  • Translate the jackpots into cash at your stake before you start. At 0.25 the Mini is 7.50, the Major 25.00 and the Grande 250.00; at 1.00 they are 30.00, 100.00 and 1,000.00.
  • Do not chase the Grande. Filling all 15 positions needs at least nine more money symbols after the first six, and most respin rounds stop well short.
  • Fix your stake and a loss limit in advance. Raising the bet after a cold run does not change the odds of the next spin.

How Chilli Heat compares

If the respin rules sound familiar, that is because Pragmatic uses the same backbone in Wolf Gold, which also has 25 lines, a six-symbol trigger and a 1,000x top jackpot. The difference is in free spins: Wolf Gold merges the middle reels into a giant symbol, while Chilli Heat removes the low symbols. For a western twist on money symbols with a collector on reel 5, see Mustang Gold.

Testing it in the demo and reading the rules

The free demo on this page runs on Pragmatic's own server, so the rules and paytable match the real-money game. Before you deposit anywhere:

  • Open the information pages and check the RTP shown for your operator. The game page lists 96.50%.
  • Check the minimum and maximum bet, which depend on the operator and currency.
  • Spin a few hundred demo rounds and note how often six money symbols appear. That gives you a feel for the gap between respin rounds at your stake.
  • Remember that the jackpots move with your bet. Halving the stake halves the Grande as well.

Play only if you are 18 or older, and treat any session as paid entertainment.
