Our verdict

Clown Coins is a tidy coin-collect game: three reels, a Wild, and one bonus whose rules fit on a single screen. The Grand coin at 1,000x gives the respins real tension. The catches are a 95% RTP and a trigger that needs a bonus symbol on every reel, including the special one that only lands on reel 2.

What we like
  • Jackpot coins worth 25x, 150x and 1,000x the bet inside the Bonus Game
  • Respins reset to three with every new coin or Power Bonus symbol
  • Wild substitutes for any symbol on the five lines
  • Official 4,103x maximum win with medium volatility
Keep in mind
  • RTP of 95.00% is below the market average
  • Bonus needs a bonus symbol on each of the three reels
  • No free spins and no bonus buy

What Clown Coins is

Clown Coins is a three-reel, three-row slot from Onlyplay, released on 17 April 2024. It has five fixed paylines, an RTP of 95.00% confirmed in both the game page and the in-game rules, medium volatility and a maximum win of 4,103x the bet.

The setting is a night-time funfair. A grinning clown with a shock of green hair looms over a striped big top, and the reels are filled with clown portraits, a toy car and circus props. To the left of the reels stand three treasure chests labeled Grand, Major and Mini: the jackpots of the Bonus Game.

How a spin works, step by step

  1. You set your bet. All five lines are played every spin.
  2. The reels stop and each line is read from left to right. A win needs three matching symbols on a line.
  3. The Wild substitutes for any symbol to create the highest possible win, and one Wild replaces one symbol.
  4. Only the highest win per line is paid, and all line wins are added.
  5. If a bonus symbol is present on each of the three reels, the Bonus Game starts automatically.

The trigger has a twist. Among the bonus symbols is a full collector piece that the in-game text calls Power Bonus, and it can only land on reel 2. The rules show the trigger as a combination with a bonus symbol on every reel, so reel 2 is the one to watch: it is where the Power Bonus, the symbol that gathers the coin values later, enters the game.

Paytable

Onlyplay's server sends the paytable as multiples of the total bet, and we verified the unit against official demo spins, where a 2x line paid 1.00 on a 0.50 stake. Symbol names are not published as text, so the table ranks the eight paying symbols by value.

Rank3 on a line (x total bet)At a 1.00 stake
Top symbol50x50.00
2nd30x30.00
3rd20x20.00
4th and 5th10x each10.00
6th, 7th and 8th2x each2.00

The lowest line win is already 2x the bet, which is generous for a three-reel game, and the top five symbols sit close together between 10x and 50x. A full screen of the top symbol would win on all five lines for 250x. The Wild helps complete those lines; the paytable data lists no separate payout for a line of Wilds.

Line math on a nine-cell grid

Five lines run across the nine cells, and the exact shapes are drawn on the game's lines screen. Because the lines overlap, one symbol can sit on several of them at once, and a single Wild can complete more than one win on the same spin. Each line is still paid only once, for its highest combination.

Some quick figures at a 1.00 bet. One line of a 2x symbol pays 2.00, the stake back twice over. Two lines of the 10x symbols on the same spin pay 20.00. A full screen of the 3rd ranked symbol wins on all five lines for 5 x 20 = 100.00, and a full screen of the top symbol reaches 250.00. Those full screens are rare, but they show that the base game alone can produce a 250x result without the bonus.

The Bonus Game step by step

Once triggered, the grid switches to bonus mode and only three kinds of symbol can land:

Bonus symbolWhere it landsWhat it does
Clown CoinAny reelCarries a value of 1x, 2x, 5x, 10x or 15x the bet, or a jackpot
Power BonusReel 2 onlySticks and accumulates the values of the coins
MaskAny reelBlank: no value and no extra respins
  • You start with 3 respins, played automatically.
  • Every new coin or Power Bonus symbol resets the counter to 3. A Mask does not.
  • Each coin value is chosen at random from 1x, 2x, 5x, 10x and 15x the triggering bet.
  • Jackpot coins can appear: Mini 25x, Major 150x and Grand 1,000x the bet.
  • When the respins run out, the values accumulated in all Power Bonus symbols are added to your total win.

The bet used for every value is the one from the spin that started the bonus, so changing the stake afterward has no effect.

A worked bonus example

At a 1.00 bet, the bonus starts with the Power Bonus on reel 2. On the first respin a 5x coin lands, and the counter resets to 3. Two empty respins follow, then a 2x coin, another reset. Next a Mask lands, which does nothing, then a 15x coin and a Mini jackpot coin on the following respins. Three empty respins end the round.

The Power Bonus has gathered 5 + 2 + 15 + 25 = 47x, so the bonus pays 47.00. Had the Grand coin appeared instead of the Mini, the same round would have paid 5 + 2 + 15 + 1,000 = 1,022.00. That single symbol is what gives a medium volatility game its 4,103x ceiling.

Grand 1,000x500.002,000.0010,000.00

Rules that are easy to misread

  • The Mask is a blank. It fills a cell but adds no value and does not reset the respins, so a Mask on the last respin ends the round.
  • Only reel 2 holds the Power Bonus. Coins can land anywhere, but the collector piece appears in the middle reel only, both in the trigger and during respins.
  • Payment comes at the end. The values gathered by the Power Bonus symbols are added to the total win when no respins remain, not coin by coin.
  • The bet is fixed for the bonus. Every coin value and jackpot uses the stake of the spin that triggered the round.
  • Autoplay stops for the bonus. The start of the Bonus Game is one of the conditions that ends an Autoplay session.

What it means for your session

Most of the excitement lives in the Bonus Game, but the base game is not idle: with a 2x floor on every line win, small results come back regularly. There is no bonus buy, no ante bet and no free spins round, so your only decision is the stake. At 95.00% the long-run cost is 5.00 per 100.00 wagered, about one point more than a 96% game; over 1,000 spins at 1.00 that is roughly 10.00 extra.

The rules also mention a Maximum Win For One Bet amount that an operator may set in the game limits. If a casino caps a single bet below the 4,103x the provider quotes, that cap applies, so check the limits screen if you play at higher stakes.

How it compares

Onlyplay released Day of Muerte later in 2024 with the same rules, paytable and jackpot values in a Day of the Dead setting, so choose between them on theme alone. Caucasian Wolf uses a different respin bonus where a full screen doubles a multiplier. For a larger, five-reel coin respin game, Wolf Gold is a well-known reference.

Testing it in the demo

The official Onlyplay demo loads in the block on this page; our demo guide covers how free play works. Things to watch:

  • How often a bonus symbol lands on reel 2, since that is usually the missing piece.
  • How many coins a typical bonus collects before the respins run out.
  • The jackpot amounts on the chests at your stake.
  • The RTP in the rules screen for the build you are playing.

Set a loss limit and a time limit first. The bonus is random, and a long gap between triggers does not make the next one more likely.

Frequently asked questions

Who makes Clown Coins and when was it released?

Clown Coins is developed by Onlyplay and was released on 17 April 2024. It is a three-reel, three-row slot with five fixed paylines, a funfair theme and a coin-collecting respin Bonus Game.

What is the RTP of Clown Coins?

Onlyplay's game page and the in-game rules both state 95.00%. The provider rates the volatility as medium and lists a maximum win of 4,103x the bet.

How do you trigger the Bonus Game?

You need a bonus symbol on each of the three reels at once. The special Power Bonus symbol, which gathers coin values during the round, can land only on reel 2, so the middle reel is the one to watch.

What are Clown Coins worth?

Regular Clown Coins are worth 1x, 2x, 5x, 10x or 15x the triggering bet. Jackpot coins pay Mini 25x, Major 150x and Grand 1,000x. The Power Bonus symbol gathers these values and pays them when the respins end.

How many respins do you get?

The bonus starts with three respins. Each new Clown Coin or Power Bonus symbol resets the counter to three. Mask symbols carry no value and do not reset it. The round ends when no respins remain.

Is Clown Coins the same as Day of Muerte?

They share the same rules, paytable values and jackpot multipliers according to Onlyplay's official data, with a different theme. Clown Coins came first, in April 2024; Day of Muerte followed in October 2024.

Does Clown Coins have free spins or a bonus buy?

No. The only feature is the respin Bonus Game. There are no free spins, no bonus buy and no ante bet, so every bonus is triggered on the reels.
