What Troyan Gems is
Troyan Gems is a five-reel, three-row video slot from Onlyplay, released on 7 September 2023. It pays on 20 fixed paylines. Onlyplay's game page and the game's own rules agree on an RTP of 95.36%, and the provider rates the volatility as medium with a maximum win of 8,032x the bet.
The theme draws on ancient Troy and Greek legend. A golden-crowned queen fronts the game, and the reels show treasures of the city: jeweled crowns, pots of gold coins, purple amphorae, bronze helmets, golden harps and rings. A warrior serves as the Wild and a goddess as the Scatter. The feature that sets the game apart sits above the reels in a golden frame: the Mini Slot.
How a spin works, step by step
- You set the total bet, which is spread evenly across the 20 lines.
- The five main reels, called Classic Reels in the rules, and the three Mini Reels above them spin together on the same bet.
- Line wins on the Classic Reels are counted from left to right and must start on reel 1. Only the highest win per line is paid.
- Scatter wins for three, four or five Scatters anywhere on the reels are added to the line wins.
- The Mini Reels set the Mini Slot Multiplier for the spin: x3, x6 or x9 for a winning combination, or x1 if there is none.
- All wins on the Classic Reels are multiplied by that value and paid.
The Mini Slot multiplier
The Mini Slot is a single row of three small reels. It has no paylines and pays nothing by itself; its only job is to set a multiplier. Three specific combinations on those reels give x3, x6 and x9, and the game's rules screen shows which symbol set produces each value. No extra stake is charged: it spins automatically with every bet.
Two details matter. First, the multiplier only counts if the main reels produce a win on the same spin, so an x9 on a losing spin pays nothing. Second, the multiplier applies to the total of all Classic Reel wins on that spin, which is where the big results come from. The multiplier values are fixed and do not stack: a spin gets one of x1, x3, x6 or x9.
Paytable
Onlyplay's server sends the paytable as multiples of the line bet, one twentieth of your total stake. We confirmed the unit with official demo spins: at a 0.50 total bet, fifteen winning lines worth 25x the line bet paid 9.375, exactly 15 x 25 x 0.025. Symbol names are not published as text, so the table groups them by value.
| Symbol | 3 of a kind | 4 of a kind | 5 of a kind |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wild | 50x | 500x | 5,000x |
| Two top symbols | 20x | 80x | 400x |
| Two upper-middle symbols | 15x | 40x | 200x |
| Two lower-middle symbols | 10x | 25x | 100x |
| Lowest symbol | 2x | 10x | 50x |
All values are multiples of the line bet. At a 2.00 total bet the line bet is 0.10, so five of a top symbol pay 40.00 and five Wilds pay 500.00, which is 250x the total stake before the Mini Slot gets involved. The Scatter pays for three, four or five anywhere; its exact values are listed on the in-game paytable.
Line wins in money at common stakes
Because the paytable is quoted per line, it is easy to overestimate what a hit is worth. This table converts the key five-of-a-kind values into money at three total stakes, before any Mini Slot multiplier:
| Five of a kind | At 0.50 total | At 2.00 total | At 10.00 total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wild (5,000x line) | 125.00 | 500.00 | 2,500.00 |
| Top symbol (400x line) | 10.00 | 40.00 | 200.00 |
| Upper-middle (200x line) | 5.00 | 20.00 | 100.00 |
| Lower-middle (100x line) | 2.50 | 10.00 | 50.00 |
| Lowest (50x line) | 1.25 | 5.00 | 25.00 |
Put another way, five of a top symbol return 20x the total stake, and three of the lowest symbol return one tenth of it. Most of the game's punch comes from Wilds and from several lines landing together, then multiplied by the Mini Slot.
How the Wild works
The Wild substitutes for any symbol to build the best win on a line. When three or more Wilds appear in a row from reel 1, the game compares two options: each Wild acting as the symbol next to it, or the Wilds paying as their own combination. Whichever pays more is used. Since a line of five Wilds is worth 5,000x the line bet, the Wild is by far the most valuable symbol on the reels.
A worked example with the multiplier
Take a 2.00 total bet, so 0.10 per line. On one spin the Classic Reels land four of a top symbol on one line (80x line bet, 8.00) and three of a lower-middle symbol on two other lines (10x each, 1.00 each). The Classic Reel total is 10.00. The Mini Reels stop on the x6 combination, so the spin pays 60.00, or 30x the stake.
The same reels with an x9 would pay 90.00, and with no Mini Slot combination just 10.00. That spread, on otherwise identical spins, is the whole character of the game. A five-Wild line at 500.00 combined with x9 would reach 4,500.00, or 2,250x the stake, from one line alone, which shows how the 8,032x cap comes within reach.
Multiplier effect at common stakes
| Classic Reel win | x1 | x3 | x6 | x9 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.00 | 1.00 | 3.00 | 6.00 | 9.00 |
| 5.00 | 5.00 | 15.00 | 30.00 | 45.00 |
| 20.00 | 20.00 | 60.00 | 120.00 | 180.00 |
| 100.00 | 100.00 | 300.00 | 600.00 | 900.00 |
Rules worth reading closely
- Wins must start on reel 1. A combination that begins on reel 2, 3, 4 or 5 does not pay, even if it is five symbols long elsewhere.
- One win per line. If a line holds two possible combinations, only the highest is paid.
- One Scatter win per spin. Only the highest Scatter combination is paid, so five Scatters do not also pay as three.
- No multiplier without a win. The Mini Slot result is applied to Classic Reel wins only, so it has no value on a losing spin.
- Operator limits apply. A Maximum Win For One Bet, if set by the casino, caps the total from a single bet.
Costs and options
Troyan Gems has no free spins, no bonus buy, no ante bet and no respins. The Mini Slot is included in every bet, so the stake is the only setting that affects cost. At 95.36% the theoretical cost is 4.64 per 100.00 wagered, a little under one point more than a 96.2% game. Over 1,000 spins at 1.00 that difference is about 8.00. Since there is no feature to chase, sessions are best planned by spin count: with 40.00 and a 0.20 stake you get 200 spins, enough to get a feel for how often the Mini Slot lands a multiplier on a winning spin. As with Onlyplay's other games, the rules note that an operator can cap total winnings per bet with a Maximum Win For One Bet amount.
How it compares
The idea of a separate reel that multiplies line wins also drives Fortune Gems 2, which uses a fourth reel next to a 3x3 grid. Troyan Gems applies the same principle to a full 20-line, five-reel game. For a Greek-myth slot built on tumbles and random multipliers instead, compare Gates of Olympus, which is far more volatile.
Testing it in the demo
The official Onlyplay demo loads in the block on this page; see our demo guide for the basics. In the demo:
- Open the paytable to match each symbol picture with the values above and to see the Scatter payouts.
- Note which Mini Reel combinations give x3, x6 and x9.
- Count how often a multiplier lands on a winning spin.
- Check the RTP line in the rules for the build you are playing.
Set a loss limit and a session length before you switch to real money. Each spin is independent, and the Mini Slot has no memory of previous results.
