Same lake, bigger catch
Big Bass Splash picks up where Big Bass Bonanza left off. The fisherman wild, the scatter-triggered free spins and the fish that carry cash values are all back, and the published RTP is unchanged at 96.71%. Pragmatic Play changed two things that matter: money symbols can now be worth up to 5,000 times your bet, and when the bonus is triggered the game may hand out as many as five random modifiers before the first free spin.
Players in Canada who have spent time with the original will settle in quickly. Newcomers only need the rules below, and the free demo on this page lets you try them with play credits first.

A quick note for Canadian players
Each province sets its own gambling rules. Ontario and Alberta run their own regulated online markets, and this edition is not aimed at them. You must be 19 in most provinces, or 18 in Alberta, Quebec and Manitoba. For sites that hold balances in CA$, see our Canadian casino rankings or our 1WIN review, and check that the game appears in the lobby before you deposit.
How the base game plays
- Set your bet. Minimum and maximum stakes depend on the operator and appear in the rules.
- Spin and read the lines. Matching symbols pay from the leftmost reel along the paylines. Exact symbol values are listed in the in-game paytable.
- Watch for the fisherman. He is wild and stands in for regular symbols to complete line wins.
- Count scatters. Land three for 10 free spins, four for 15 or five for 20.
Line hits in the base game are usually modest. Think of them as fuel that keeps your balance alive until the scatters arrive.
How collecting works in free spins
Inside the bonus, fish arrive as money symbols, each showing a cash value. They do nothing until a fisherman wild turns up in that spin; he then scoops up the value of every fish on screen. A screen full of fish without a fisherman pays nothing from the fish.
Every fisherman you land is also tallied. Reaching each set of four retriggers the round for 10 more spins and raises the multiplier on future collections:
| Multiplier reached | Fishermen needed | Extra spins |
|---|---|---|
| 2x | 4th | 10 more |
| 3x | 8th | 10 more |
| 10x | 12th | 10 more |
Modifiers that can fire before the bonus
This is the headline feature. Once free spins are triggered, the game may randomly award up to five modifiers before spin one. Among them are extra money symbols, extra fisherman wilds and extra free spins; the rules screen lists the full set.
- More money symbols raise the odds that a fisherman lands beside something worth taking.
- More wilds mean more collections and a quicker climb to the 2x, 3x and 10x levels.
- More spins give the round extra time to reach its next retrigger.
Plenty of bonuses begin without any modifier. That is normal and does not mean the round is weak; the standard collection rules still give it every chance.
Worked free spins round in CA$
Suppose you spin at CA$2 and three scatters land, giving 10 free spins. The game adds one modifier: extra spins.
- On spin 3 a fisherman appears next to fish worth 2x, 5x and 10x. That is 17x, so CA$34.
- Your fourth fisherman arrives on spin 8. The round gains 10 spins and the multiplier moves to 2x.
- On spin 13 a fisherman lands beside fish of 5x and 10x. That is 15x, doubled to 30x, which pays CA$60.
- Thanks to the bonus spins from the modifier, you reach eight fishermen on spin 19, collect 10 more spins and step up to 3x. A later catch of a single 50x fish becomes 150x, or CA$300.
The fish collections total CA$34 + CA$60 + CA$300 = CA$394 from a CA$2 trigger, with line wins on top. Without the extra spins, the round could have ended before the 3x level was ever reached.
Changes from Big Bass Bonanza
| Feature | Splash | Original Bonanza |
|---|---|---|
| Return to player | 96.71% | 96.71% |
| Top fish value | 5,000x | 2,000x |
| Spins for 3, 4, 5 scatters | 10, 15, 20 | 10, 15, 20 |
| Fisherman ladder | 2x, 3x, 10x (unchanged) | 2x, 3x, 10x |
| Random modifiers before the bonus | up to five | none |
Return and ladder are the same, so Splash is not more generous on paper. It spreads results wider: average bonuses look much like the original, while the strong ones can go further. If you want the highest ceiling in the family and a second buy option, look at Big Bass Bonanza 1000.
Feature buy and what to check first
Where the operator allows it, the bonus buy costs 100x your bet, so CA$100 at a CA$1 stake or CA$50 at CA$0.50. A purchased round can still receive modifiers, but none are guaranteed.
Before any real-money play, use the demo for three checks:
- Open the rules and confirm the RTP reads 96.71%. A lower figure means the site runs a different build.
- Write down the minimum and maximum bet.
- Play through a batch of bonuses and record how often modifiers appear and what each one added.
Choose a stake that can absorb several flat bonuses in a row without draining your budget.
Is Splash the right Big Bass for you?
Pick Splash if you like the collection bonus but want more contrast between an ordinary round and a memorable one. Nothing new needs learning: fish hold cash, the fisherman scoops it, every fourth fisherman lifts the multiplier. The modifiers bring a bit of suspense whenever a bonus opens, and the 5,000x fish ceiling gives a single catch more weight than it ever had in the first game. Prefer calm, readable rounds? Stay with the original.

Where to play Big Bass Splash in Canadian dollars
Questions from Canadian players
What RTP does Big Bass Splash pay?
The published figure is 96.71%, matching the original Big Bass Bonanza. Operators can install other builds, so open the rules screen on your chosen site and make sure the RTP line shows 96.71% before playing with Canadian dollars.
How high can a fish value go?
A money fish in Big Bass Splash can be worth up to 5,000 times the bet, up from 2,000x in the original. At a CA$1 stake that is CA$5,000 on one symbol, but it is only paid when a fisherman shows up in that same spin.
What do the pre-bonus modifiers do?
When free spins trigger, up to five random modifiers may be added before the first spin. They include extra money symbols, extra fisherman wilds and extra spins. Some rounds get none, and the full list is in the rules screen.
How many free spins can I get?
Three scatters give 10 free spins, four give 15 and five give 20. During the round each set of four fisherman wilds adds 10 more spins and pushes the multiplier on collected fish up a step: 2x, 3x and finally 10x.
Can I buy the bonus in Big Bass Splash?
Yes, where the operator has enabled it. The price is 100 times your bet, so CA$100 at a CA$1 stake. The bought round can still get random modifiers. If the button is missing, the site has switched the buy off.
Is Big Bass Splash better than Big Bass Bonanza?
Neither pays more on average, since both list 96.71% and use the same 2x, 3x, 10x ladder. Splash gives more variety between bonuses and a 5,000x fish ceiling, while the original keeps every round simpler and more predictable.
