Our verdict

Gemza is one of the better value BGaming slots: a 97.17% RTP, base game multipliers and a free spins round where the multiplier only grows. The extra reel is a small but useful twist. The 5,000x cap is modest for a very high volatility game, so the ceiling does not quite match the swings.

What we like
  • RTP of 97.17% in every mode
  • Multiplier boxes up to x500 in the base game and free spins
  • Free spins multiplier accumulates for the whole round
  • Scatters pay up to 100x on top of free spins
Keep in mind
  • Max win capped at 5,000x
  • Free spins need 4 Scatters
  • Very high volatility, long dry spells are normal

What Gemza is

BGaming released Gemza on December 15, 2023. The theme is a dwarven treasure vault taken over by a fire breathing dragon, and the symbols are low and high paying gemstones. The provider describes it as a bonanza style slot: symbols pay anywhere on the screen, winners vanish and new symbols drop in, and multiplier boxes boost the result.

The twist is the layout. Gemza uses a 5x5 main grid with a separate extra reel underneath that shows five more symbols each spin. Those five count toward wins, so every spin has 30 symbols in play. BGaming rates the volatility very high, lists an RTP of 97.17%, a hit rate of 8.17 and a maximum win of 5,000x the bet.

How a spin works step by step

  1. Choose your stake. The demo offers 0.20 to 50 credits; your casino sets real limits.
  2. Twenty five symbols land on the main grid and five more on the extra reel below it.
  3. Any symbol that appears 8 or more times anywhere on screen pays. Position does not matter.
  4. Winning symbols disappear, the rest fall and new ones drop in. This refill repeats with no limit while new wins appear.
  5. Multiplier boxes that land stay until the refill sequence ends. If the spin produced a win, their values are added together and multiply the total.
  6. Four or more Scatters start free spins. Scatters also pay in their own right.

Paytable

Nine gem symbols pay in three bands. The values come from the demo server's paytable and are shown as multiples of the bet. The server lists symbols by number, so we label them by rank.

Symbol8 to 910 to 1112+
Top premium10x25x50x
Premium 22.50x10x25x
Premium 32x5x15x
Premium 41.50x2x12x
Middle1x1.50x10x
Low 10.80x1.20x8x
Low 20.50x1x5x
Low 30.40x0.90x4x
Low 40.25x0.75x2x

The Scatter pays 3x for 4, 5x for 5 and 100x for 6 according to the demo server. Notice the jump into the 12+ band: the middle symbol pays 1.50x for 11 copies and 10x for 12. With 30 positions, a long refill chain can push a symbol over that line more easily than on a plain 5x5 grid.

The extra reel

The extra reel sits below the main field and shows five symbols every spin. They take part in wins exactly like main grid symbols. In practice it adds one more row of five, so the screen holds 30 symbols, the same count as a 6x5 game. The value is in the extra chance to complete an 8 symbol win and to push a winning symbol into a higher band during refills.

Multiplier boxes explained

Multiplier symbols look like boxes, and the color tells you the range:

BoxRange
Woodenx2 to x5
Greenx6 to x30
Violetx31 to x100
Rubyx101 to x500

Boxes can land both in the base game and in free spins. In the base game, if more than one box lands and the spin produces a win, their values are added and the sum multiplies the total win at the end of the spin. If there is no win, the boxes do nothing. Our multipliers guide covers the difference between added and stacked boosts.

Free spins with an accumulating multiplier

Four or more Scatters award 15 free spins. Three or more Scatters during the round add 5 more.

The round changes how boxes work. When a winning free spin contains boxes, their values are added to a running total. That total then applies to every later winning spin, plus whatever boxes land on that spin. The multiplier never resets during the round, so it can only grow. One rule detail: if four or more Scatters and a box land together, the box value is applied even though you will not see it on the screen.

A worked example

At a 1.00 bet, the first winning free spin pays 3.00 and shows a green box of x12 and a wooden box of x3. The total becomes x15, and that spin pays 45.00. Two spins later, a win of 2.00 arrives with no new box. It still uses the stored x15, so it pays 30.00. Then a violet box of x40 lands on a win of 4.00. The running total jumps to x55, and the spin pays 220.00. Every later win in the round gets at least x55.

That build up is why the free spins carry most of the game's value, and why a ruby box early in the round can change the result completely.

The base game works differently. Picture a 1.00 spin where a refill chain pays 2.50 in total and a wooden x4 and a green x10 land on the screen. They add up to x14, so the spin pays 35.00. On the next spin both boxes are gone. Without a win, the same two boxes would have paid nothing, which is why base game boxes feel exciting but hit only now and then.

Bonus buy and Chance x2

The bonus buy costs 100x the bet according to the rules, and the next spin triggers free spins. Chance x2 works like an ante bet: it raises the stake by 25 percent, so a 1.00 bet costs 1.25, and doubles the chance of landing Scatters. The two options cannot be active together. In the demo build both run at the same 97.17% RTP as normal play.

The two options suit different players. At a 1.00 stake, 80 spins with Chance x2 cost 100.00, the same as one buy. Those 80 spins give you base game boxes and Scatter prizes along the way, and a better than normal shot at the bonus, but no guarantee. The buy guarantees the round but skips everything else. Since the return is the same either way, pick the shape of session you prefer, and remember that a 15 spin round can still end well below its 100x price if no large box lands early.

RTP, volatility and how to test it

An RTP of 97.17% is well above the common 96%. Over 1,000 spins at 1.00 that difference is about 11.70 less expected loss. Still, check the rules screen at your casino, since other versions can exist; our RTP guide explains why. Volatility is very high, the hit rate of 8.17 means about one paying spin in eight, and BGaming lists an FS rate of 163, which we read as one free spins trigger per roughly 163 spins on average.

If you like the pay anywhere format but want a higher ceiling, Alien Fruits offers 15,000x with multipliers only in free spins. In the free demo, play 200 spins, count how often boxes appear without a win, and compare a session with Chance x2 against one without. Size real stakes so that at least 150 bets fit your budget.

Bankroll and stake sizing

Gemza pays frequent small wins, but many of them fall below the stake, and base game boxes only matter when they land on a winning spin. The big results come from free spins where an early high box sets the level for the rest of the round. That means patience pays off more than a high stake.

  • At a 0.40 stake, 200 spins cost 80, a reasonable floor if one bonus arrives every 160 or so spins on average.
  • Chance x2 at the same stake costs 0.50 per spin, so 80 buys 160 spins with a better trigger chance.
  • One bonus buy at 0.40 costs 40, half of that budget. Decide in advance how many buys you are prepared to make.
  • Set a loss limit and a win target, and stop after a strong round instead of chasing another.

The 97.17% return stays the same whatever you choose. Stake and mode only change how your session plays out.
