Why a missed Lion is good news
In most slots an expanding Wild that fails to complete a win is simply a near miss. Golden Pride, added by BGaming to its Classic range on 20 November 2024, flips that. When the King Lion fills a reel and nothing connects, the game hands you a second act: the Lion stays put and the other reels keep spinning with a multiplier that grows after every blank. So the spins that look like losses are often the ones you actually want.
The setting is a castle and its royal treasury, drawn in gold and steel. Underneath, the frame is simple: a 5x3 grid paying across 243 ways, a 96% RTP, medium high volatility and a ceiling of 15,360x the bet. BGaming lists a hit rate of 6.00, which works out to roughly one paying spin in every six.
Playing Golden Pride from Ghana
In Ghana, real-money gaming falls under the Gaming Commission of Ghana, which licenses casinos, sports betting and online operators under the Gaming Act 2006 (Act 721). You must be 18 or older, and licensed operators verify players with the Ghana Card before paying out. Many local sites take deposits straight from a MoMo wallet; our MoMo casino guide explains how that usually works. The game itself plays exactly the same wherever you load it, so every example below simply uses cedi stakes.
One spin, start to finish
- Pick a stake. Your casino sets the real cedi limits in the bet menu. The demo runs on play credits, which tell you nothing about the limits a Ghanaian operator applies.
- Fifteen symbols drop. Five reels, three rows, no tumbles and no extra layers.
- Ways are counted. A symbol showing on each of the first three reels, in whatever row, forms a win, and further copies on reels 4 and 5 extend it. Each separate combination of positions counts as its own way.
- Ways are paid. Every winning way pays its value times your stake. If one way could pay two symbols, only the higher one counts, and different ways add up.
- The Lion checks in. If the Lion Wild appears, it stretches over its whole reel. It either joins a winning way or kicks off respins.
Payouts per way, in cedis
There are nine paying symbols. Values are multiples of your total stake for each way. The last column shows a single five of a kind way at a GH₵2 stake so you can picture real money.
| Symbol | Three | Four | Five | Five at GH₵2 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Top premium | 2.50x | 6x | 15x | GH₵30 |
| Premium 2 | 2x | 5x | 12x | GH₵24 |
| Premium 3 | 1x | 3x | 6x | GH₵12 |
| Premium 4 | 1x | 2.50x | 5x | GH₵10 |
| Middle 1 | 0.50x | 1.25x | 1.75x | GH₵3.50 |
| Middle 2 | 0.50x | 1x | 1.50x | GH₵3 |
| Middle 3 | 0.50x | 0.75x | 1.25x | GH₵2.50 |
| Two low symbols | 0.40x | 0.60x | 1x | GH₵2 |
The top figure, 15x, is the key number in the whole game. Multiply it by the highest respin multiplier of x1,024 and you get exactly the 15,360x ceiling. Put differently, the paytable is modest on purpose; the respin ladder is what turns ordinary hits into big ones.
The Lion that fills a reel
Any reel can host the Lion Wild, and it stands in for every paying symbol. The moment it appears, it expands from top to bottom. A full column of Wilds works like a hidden multiplier on ways: one matching symbol on each neighbouring reel now connects through all three rows instead of one.
From there, only two things can happen. The expanded Lion completes a win, you collect it and the round is over. Or it completes nothing, and instead of fading away it freezes on its reel and starts the respin feature.
Respins and the doubling ladder
While the respins run, the Lion stays locked and the remaining reels spin again for free. A progress bar shows the current multiplier. It starts at x1 and doubles after each respin that pays nothing: x2, x4, x8 and x16, then x32, x64 and x128, then x256 and x512, and finally the cap of x1,024. As soon as any respin pays, the feature closes, and that win is paid at the multiplier showing on the bar.
You have no control over when the ladder stops. A fast win at x1 or x2 barely moves your balance, while a long dry stretch builds a huge multiplier that may land on a humble low symbol. Where the Lion sits matters too. Placed early, on reel 1, 2 or 3, it feeds every short combination, so the chain tends to break early. On reel 4 or 5 it only helps longer combinations, which means more misses and a higher climb.
Here is a worked example at a GH₵2 stake. The Lion lands on reel 2 and nothing connects, so respins begin. Respin one misses at x1, respin two misses at x2, respin three misses at x4. Respin four pays at x8: three separate ways of Middle 1 for three of a kind, 0.50x each. That is 1.50x your stake, or GH₵3, and at x8 the feature pays GH₵24. If the ladder had held out for three more blanks, the same GH₵3 would have been multiplied by x64 and paid GH₵192.
Picking a buy: 12x, 50x or 200x
Where the operator allows it, three bonus buys drop the Lion on a chosen reel and send you straight into the respins. Prices come from BGaming's demo server.
| Buy | Price | At GH₵1 | At GH₵2 | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Early Lion (reel 1, 2 or 3) | 12x | GH₵12 | GH₵24 | Wins come easily, so ladders are usually short |
| Fourth reel Lion | 50x | GH₵50 | GH₵100 | The first three reels have to line up unaided |
| Fifth reel Lion | 200x | GH₵200 | GH₵400 | Only five of a kind uses it, so ladders run longer |
Our reading of the pricing is that it follows the ways logic above. An early Lion connects quickly and keeps multipliers small; a Lion on the last reel waits for reels 1 to 4 to line up, so blanks stack up and the multiplier grows. The demo build lists 96% RTP for all three buys, which means the higher price pays for a wider spread of outcomes, not for better value.
Return, risk and the 15,360x ceiling
The listed RTP is 96% in the base game and in every buy. BGaming rates the volatility medium high, so swings are real but less savage than in the very high releases that dominate lobbies today. At a GH₵1 stake, the 15,360x cap equals GH₵15,360, and it needs the best possible outcome: five top premiums on a way, paid at x1,024. Open the game rules at your casino and confirm the RTP line, because operators can choose which build to install.
Similar games and a demo routine
If one big multiplier hook appeals to you, BGaming's Train to Rio Grande builds its feature around a safe code instead. If you like an expanding symbol within free games, Book of Dead is the natural benchmark. Golden Pride sits between them, with no free spins and a second chance after a blank Lion.
Before you stake cedis, give the free version a proper run. Our demo guide covers the basics; for this game, try the following:
- Spin 150 to 200 times and count Lion appearances, noting which ones pay immediately.
- Buy the 12x option ten times and record the multiplier each ladder reaches. Then try a few reel 5 buys and compare.
- Read the rules page for the RTP figure and the buy availability before switching to real money.
Budgeting your cedis
Most spins here end with a small way win or nothing. The value sits in Lions that miss, so give yourself enough spins to see several of them.
- A GH₵200 session at GH₵1 per spin gives you 200 spins, a sensible sample for a game like this.
- At GH₵0.50, the 12x buy costs GH₵6, so GH₵120 covers twenty respin rounds. Expect most of them to stop early.
- The reel 5 buy at GH₵1 costs GH₵200 in one go. Only consider it if losing that amount would not end your evening.
- Set a loss limit and a win target before you start, the same way you would cap a weekend football bet, and stick to both.
No stake size or buy changes the long-run return. They only change how quickly your balance moves, up or down.

Questions from players in Ghana
Is Golden Pride available to players in Ghana?
The game itself is not tied to a country; availability depends on the casino. In Ghana, the Gaming Commission licenses online operators under Act 721, players must be 18 or older and licensed sites verify accounts with the Ghana Card.
What RTP does Golden Pride have?
BGaming lists 96%. The demo build uses that figure for the base game and for all three buys. Check the rules screen at your casino, since an operator can install a different version.
What happens when the Lion misses?
If the full reel Lion forms no win, it freezes in place while the remaining four reels spin again. Each blank respin doubles the multiplier, beginning at x1 and topping out at x1,024. The first paying respin closes the feature at whatever multiplier is showing.
How much can you win on Golden Pride?
The ceiling is 15,360x your stake, which is the 15x top per way pay multiplied by the x1,024 respin cap. At a GH₵1 stake that would be GH₵15,360.
What do the Golden Pride bonus buys cost in cedis?
The Lion on reel 1, 2 or 3 costs 12x, on reel 4 costs 50x and on reel 5 costs 200x. At a GH₵2 stake that is GH₵24, GH₵100 and GH₵400. Some casinos switch buys off.
Does Golden Pride include a free spins round?
There is none. The only feature is the respin round that starts when the expanding Lion Wild lands without forming a win. Everything else is ordinary 243 ways play on a 5x3 grid.
