Birds in the City carries a launch date of 8 October 2026 and continues Betsoft's Birds line. The cartoon birds now live in the city: a swaggering street pigeon type, assorted rooftop neighbours and a mad scientist bird whose electric contraption drives the bonus. The first Birds game is not reviewed on this site, so this page stands on its own.

The move to the city brought a new engine. Instead of the original's unusual layout, the sequel uses a 6x5 grid where symbols pay wherever they land, followed by cascades, the format made famous by Sweet Bonanza. Betsoft's numbers:

How a spin unfolds

Thirty symbols land. Wins are counted by how many of one symbol appear anywhere on the grid, not along lines; our page on pay systems explains the difference. Betsoft has not published the minimum count or the pay values, so the in-game paytable is where you find them.

When a win pays, those symbols vanish, the rest fall down and new ones drop from the top. That repeats for as long as new wins form, the familiar cascade loop. Any multiplier symbols that landed during the sequence are added together once the cascades stop, and the sum is applied to the total win of that spin.

The hit rate of 28.97% means roughly 29 spins in 100 produce some win and about 71 produce nothing. That is the normal rhythm of a very high volatility grid slot, and it is worth seeing in the demo before your naira is involved.

Mystery tiles

Mystery tiles can turn up on paid spins and during cascades, often in several places at once. When they open, every one of them turns into one shared symbol. Because counts are what pay here, this matters: if you already have a few of one bird and three mysteries open as that bird, the count jumps by three in one go and may cross into a win or a higher pay band. If they open as something unrelated, they may do nothing. Betsoft lists mysteries for the base game only.

Multipliers outside the bonus

Plenty of grid slots keep multipliers locked inside free spins. Here they can land on any paid spin, with values up to 500x. The rule is additive: everything on screen is summed and then applied once. Our multiplier guide compares the common systems.

A ₦200 illustration, with made-up pay values since Betsoft publishes none: the first drop pays ₦120, a cascade adds ₦280, so raw wins total ₦400. A 3x and a 10x sit on screen during the sequence, adding to 13x. The spin pays ₦400 times 13, which is ₦5,200. Had both multipliers landed on a spin with no win, they would have paid nothing. Multipliers only help when the cascade produces something to multiply.

Free spins and the climbing multiplier

A trigger needs four scatters or more, of either kind, and gives 15 free spins. Once the round is running, a further three scatters bring 5 extra spins.

The heart of the round is the Total Multiplier, wired to the scientist's electric box. Any multiplier that arrives on a paying spin joins this running figure and remains in it until the bonus ends. Betsoft's game page says the running figure kicks in on a paying spin that also brings a fresh multiplier. Here is a ₦100 round with invented win values to show the build-up:

Spin 6 shows the open question. The launch announcement suggests the running total boosts each paying cascade of the round; the game page, by contrast, links it only to spins carrying a new multiplier. If the first reading applies to your build, spin 6 pays ₦720 instead of ₦180. The rules inside the game decide, so read them. Either way, early multipliers are worth the most because they keep working for every spin that follows.

The special scatters

Mixed in with the regular scatters are Super Scatter versions, which also count toward the trigger of four. If one or more of them sits in the triggering set, you also collect an instant prize that rises with each extra Super Scatter in the set. Betsoft also says ordinary scatters pay on their own, separate from the bonus they start. The values for both are in the game, not on Betsoft's site.

Paying for speed

Bet Booster. Switch it on and the chance of reaching free spins in normal play doubles. You pay more per spin, as with any ante option; the bet panel shows the boosted price. On a fixed budget that means fewer spins, so lower your base stake if you want the session to last the same time.

Buy Bonus. Two options, priced as multiples of your stake on the buy screen:

Betsoft states a top factor of 45,000x, which at ₦100 is ₦4,500,000. The release words it as a factor of the maximum bet, and the rules screen sets out the exact cap, so read it there before quoting it to friends. Reaching anything near it needs a large Total Multiplier meeting a big cascade late in a long bonus, which is extremely rare.

On a phone and a data bundle

A 6x5 grid with cascades and electric effects is heavier than a classic three-reel game, both on the phone's processor and on data. The first load takes longest; after that, spins are light. On a weak connection, let each spin and its cascades finish completely before you tap again, and check your balance after any interruption.
