What Tombstone R.I.P is

Nolimit City released Tombstone R.I.P on January 11, 2022, as the brutal follow-up in its Tombstone series. The setting is a dusty border town overrun by outlaws, and the game makes no attempt to be friendly about it. The provider rates the volatility as Insane, and every number on the math sheet backs that up.

The default RTP is 96.08%, split into 55.99% from the base game and 40.08% from the bonus rounds, so a large share of the return waits inside the free spins. An alternative 94.08% build also exists. Only 9.08% of spins produce a win, free spins arrive on average once every 194 spins, a win of 100x or more comes about once in 1,014 spins, and the 300,000x cap, called El Gordo's Revenge, is estimated at one in 130 million rounds. Stakes run from 0.10 to 50 per spin.

The reel layout and 108 win ways

The grid is five reels with a 2-3-3-3-1 row setup. Reel one shows two symbols, the three middle reels show three each, and the fifth reel shows a single symbol that always counts as two. That last detail is where the number of ways comes from: 2 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 2 = 108 win ways by default. It is a ways to win game, so there are no fixed lines to track.

The fifth reel has special rules. It carries no low-value symbols, all its symbols count as double, and the Wild, xSplit Wild and Boothill Scatter only appear there in the base game and in Hang 'em High Freespins. During Boothill Freespins the reel holds nothing but the five Cowboy symbols.

Split symbols change the count. When a middle reel is split in half, its three positions become six, and the ways on that spin rise from 108 to 216. Split two middle reels and you are at 432.

How a spin works step by step

1. Choose your stake, and decide whether to switch on Enhanced Bet (covered below).
2. The reels land. Any Wild types resolve first: xNudge Wilds nudge until they fill the reel, Reel Split Wilds split their reel, and an xSplit Wild on the last reel cuts symbols to its left.
3. Wins are counted across the resulting ways, with Wild multipliers applied.
4. The xRIP check runs. If the total payout according to the paytable is below your base bet, the spin pays nothing.
5. Scatters are checked for Hang 'em High or Boothill Freespins, or for the Boothill Cowboy respin in the base game.

The Wilds that do the heavy lifting

Regular Wild

A Wild substitutes for every symbol except Scatters and can land on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5.

xNudge Wild

This stacked Wild appears only on the three middle reels. When part of it lands, it nudges up or down until it covers the whole reel, and each nudge adds 1 to its multiplier. A Wild that lands showing one position and nudges twice ends up as a full-reel x3 Wild. Several xNudge multipliers on the same spin add together, so x3 and x2 give x5, not x6. Reel Split Wild

Found on the middle three reels only. After landing, it splits itself and the other symbols on its reel in half, doubling the number of symbols on that reel.

xSplit Wild

The xSplit Wild appears only on the last reel and counts as two symbols high. It cuts the symbols to its left along one of four paths, chosen by an even random draw: the four symbols on the top row, the four on the bottom row, or the three middle-row symbols on reels 2 to 4 together with either the top or the bottom symbol on reel 1. A symbol that was already split by a Reel Split Wild splits again, so one position ends up holding four symbols. When an xSplit cuts an xNudge Wild, the xNudge multiplier doubles, which is how a modest x3 becomes x6 in a single step.

xRIP and Enhanced Bet

xRIP is the rule that gives the game its reputation. Any spin, in the base game or in a bonus round, whose total payout according to the paytable falls below the base bet is voided. At a 1.00 stake, a 0.40 line hit pays 0.00, while a 1.20 result pays in full. The effect is a base game with even fewer small wins than the 9.08% hit rate suggests, and a balance that moves in large, rare jumps.

Enhanced Bet raises the stake by 10% and guarantees a Scatter symbol on the second reel. The rules describe it as a more brutal, less rewarding base game in return for a better chance at Hang 'em High or Boothill Freespins. At 1.00 you pay 1.10 per spin. With Enhanced Bet on, the RTP of the build rises to 96.28%, or 94.25% in the lower configuration.

Hang 'em High Freespins with a worked example

Hang 'em High Scatters appear only on the three middle reels in the base game. Three of them award 8 free spins. A Scatter that has been split still counts as one for the trigger, but each split Scatter adds one extra spin if the round starts. Landing just two Scatters is not wasted either: they turn into Reel Split Wilds.

The key feature is a win multiplier that climbs and never resets during the round. Each Wild that lands raises it: a regular Wild by x1, a Reel Split Wild by x2, an xSplit Wild by x2 and an xNudge Wild by x1 to x3 depending on its nudges.

Here is how that compounds at a 1.00 stake. Suppose the first spins deliver a regular Wild (+1), then an xSplit Wild (+2), then an xNudge Wild that nudged twice (+3). Together they add 6 to the running multiplier. Say the round meter now reads x7 and the next spin produces 4.00 in paytable wins, the spin pays 28.00. Every Wild after that keeps lifting the meter for the spins still to come, which is why late Wilds in a round are worth far more than early ones.

If a Boothill Scatter lands on the last reel during Hang 'em High, the round upgrades to Boothill Freespins and 2 extra spins are added.

Boothill Freespins and the x999 Cowboy

Three Hang 'em High Scatters plus a Boothill Scatter on the last reel award 10 Boothill Freespins, the round that feeds the 300,000x ceiling. The last reel holds only the five Cowboy symbols. On each spin, the Cowboy that lands there turns every symbol of the same type on the grid into a Wild. In addition, a random multiplier is drawn and attached to a random Cowboy symbol. The possible values are 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 22, 36, 44, 45, 54, 58, 90, 310, 523, 718, 805 and 999. That multiplier adds to the overall multiplier before the payout is calculated. The win multiplier still grows from Wilds, Reel Split Wilds and xNudge Wilds, as in Hang 'em High.

A worked example at a 1.00 stake: the round meter sits at x5 and the drawn Cowboy carries x44. The overall multiplier becomes x49. With 3.00 in paytable wins on that spin, the payout is 147.00. Draw the x999 on a spin where the meter is already high and you can see how the cap becomes reachable.

Boothill Scatters also matter in the base game. If one lands without enough Hang 'em High Scatters for the round, the last reel respins and lands a Cowboy. That Cowboy becomes Wild on all reels and receives a random x5 to x999 multiplier.

Buying the bonus

The Nolimit Bonus feature buy takes you straight into Hang 'em High Freespins or Boothill Freespins, the two buy options named in the rules. Nolimit City lists prices ranging from 70x to 3,000x the base bet. The in-game buy menu shows the exact cost of each option at your stake, and the rules screen shows the return for each buy, which can differ from the base game figure. At a 0.20 stake, the 70x entry costs 14.00 and the 3,000x entry costs 600.00, so bankroll planning matters far more than usual here.

How it compares with other Nolimit City games

If you already know Duck Hunters 2, the contrast is instructive. Both are from the same studio and both are built for extreme outcomes, but Duck Hunters 2 pays more often, with a 17.68% hit frequency, and caps at 40,000x. Tombstone R.I.P roughly halves that hit rate, adds xRIP and multiplies the ceiling by 7.5. It is the purer high-risk design of the two.
