Our verdict

Wicked Grin is really a coin collection game wearing a slot costume: the regular symbols keep the reels ticking, but the money comes from reels flipping into coins. Both bonuses add a clear, readable way to grow those coins across a round. Medium volatility on Hacksaw's own scale makes it one of the studio's gentler releases.

What Wicked Grin is

Hacksaw Gaming released Wicked Grin on 8 October 2026. The art is pure rubber hose cartoon: black and white, grinning faces and a character called Boney Bill. Underneath sits a 5 reel, 5 row grid with All-Scatter wins, meaning matching symbols pay wherever they land.

The regular symbols are only half the game. The real engine is the Wicked Grin symbol. When it lands on the bottom row, it stretches up its reel and converts everything on that reel into coins or a multiplier. Coins are worth fixed multiples of your bet, from a 1x bronze coin to a 500x diamond coin, so a single good reel can pay more than any normal symbol win.

Hacksaw rates volatility at 3 out of 5, lists RTP builds of 96.27%, 94.32%, 92.28% and 86.28%, and caps wins at 10,000x the bet in the base game and every bonus mode.

How a spin works step by step

  1. Set your bet. The demo offered stakes from 0.10 to 100 per spin.
  2. Twenty five symbols land. Five reels of five rows fill the screen.
  3. Symbol wins are paid. Six or more of the same symbol anywhere on the grid form a win. Our pay systems guide explains how this differs from paylines.
  4. Grins on the bottom row expand. After all wins are handled, any Wicked Grin or Epic Wicked Grin in the bottom row grows to cover its reel.
  5. The reel turns into coins. Every position on that reel becomes a coin or a multiplier. Multipliers boost coins, and all coin values are paid as multiples of your bet.
  6. FS symbols are checked. If an FS or Super FS scatter sits on the bottom row, it expands instead and the bonus begins.

Two placement rules shape everything. Only one type of Wicked Grin can land on a reel at a time, and FS symbols never share the grid with any kind of Wicked Grin. A spin is either a coin spin or a bonus spin, never both.

Coins and their values

When a reel converts, each coin draws a value from its tier. The rules list these starting values:

CoinPossible values (x bet)
Bronze1x, 2x, 3x, 4x
Silver5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x
Gold10x, 20x, 30x, 40x, 50x
Diamond100x, 150x, 250x, 500x

Even a reel of five bronze coins pays at least 5x the bet, which is more than most regular symbol wins. That is why the bottom row is the most watched spot on the screen. The values for regular symbol wins are shown in the in-game paytable; Hacksaw does not publish them on its site.

Multipliers and the Epic Wicked Grin

Instead of a coin, a converted position can become a multiplier worth x2, x3, x4, x5, x10 or x20. It applies to every coin above it on its own reel and to coins on the neighboring reels in the rows above it. Multipliers never appear on the top row, so there is always something above them to boost. If several are revealed, they apply one at a time, left to right and top to bottom. Our multiplier guide compares this with other slot multipliers.

Worked example at a 1.00 bet. A Wicked Grin lands at the bottom of reel 3 and converts it, top to bottom, into a 2x bronze, a 5x silver, a 10x gold, a x3 multiplier and a 3x bronze. The multiplier sits in row four, so it boosts the three coins above it: 2 + 5 + 10 = 17, times 3, gives 51. The bronze coin below it is untouched and adds 3. The reel pays 54.00.

The Epic Wicked Grin adds a chain reaction. When it expands, every other Wicked Grin on the grid expands from wherever it is, not just from the bottom row. A grin stranded in the middle of reel 1 suddenly converts too, and multipliers then have coins on adjacent reels to boost.

Spreading FS symbols and the bonus count

FS and Super FS scatters work like the grins: they only matter on the bottom row. Once one lands there, every FS symbol on the grid expands over its reel after wins are paid. Each position it covers shows 1, 2 or 3, and the numbers are added to give your free spins total. One expanding FS awards 5 to 15 spins; with the maximum of two FS symbols on the grid, the total runs from 5 to 30.

Example: a single FS expands and shows 2, 1, 3, 1 and 2. You start the bonus with 9 free spins. Regular FS symbols lead to Stash N Stack; Super FS symbols lead to Coin Craze. The two kinds never appear together.

Stash N Stack bonus

Stash N Stack keeps the base game mechanics and adds a stash above each reel holding a multiplier that starts at x1. Whenever a Wicked Grin expands on a reel, all coin values on that reel are multiplied by its stash. The stash then rises by 1 for the next free spin.

Worked example at a 1.00 bet. On spin two a grin converts reel 2 into coins totalling 12x. The stash is x1, so it pays 12.00 and moves to x2. On spin six reel 2 converts again, this time for 20x in coins. At x2 that pays 40.00, and the stash climbs to x3. Reels that keep converting get better each time, so a long round rewards patience. Expanding FS symbols during the bonus add 5 to 15 more spins each, up to 30 extra in total.

Coin Craze bonus

Coin Craze replaces the stash with a Coin Collector above each reel, starting at 1. Whenever a Wicked Grin expands, all coin values on that reel are saved in its collector until the end of the bonus. Multipliers revealed during an expansion first boost the coins, then also multiply the saved value in the collector on that reel and on the neighboring reels. At the end, all collectors are added together and multiplied by your bet.

The difference in feel is clear. Stash N Stack pays as you go and grows per reel; Coin Craze banks everything and lets a late x20 multiply a whole column of savings. The second is the bigger, swingier bonus, which matches its higher buy price.

Bonus buys and FeatureSpins

The demo session listed four paid options. Costs are multiples of your bet.

OptionCostWhat you getRTP
BonusHunt FeatureSpins3x per spinEach spin 5 times more likely to trigger a bonus96.39%
Grinny FeatureSpins50x per spinAt least one Wicked Grin type guaranteed each spin96.23%
Stash N Stack buy80xDirect entry to Stash N Stack96.26%
Coin Craze buy200xDirect entry to Coin Craze96.28%

All four sit within 0.16 points of each other on RTP, so the choice is about variance and budget, not value. The FeatureSpins modes work like a super spin: a higher per spin price for a changed base game. A bonus buy is one large bet on one round. In the Grinny mode FS symbols cannot land, so it is purely a coin hunting mode.

RTP, volatility and max win

The top RTP build is 96.27%. Casinos may also run 94.32%, 92.28% or 86.28%, and the difference is significant over time: on 1,000 units of play, the expected loss is about 37 units at 96.27% and about 137 at 86.28%. Check the rules screen and read our RTP guide if the number looks low.

Volatility is 3 out of 5 on Hacksaw's scale, which we list as medium. The maximum win is 10,000x the bet. Hacksaw notes that it is reachable in the base game and in all bonus modes.

How to test it in the free demo

  • Spin 200 times at a fixed stake and count how often a grin lands on the bottom row versus anywhere else.
  • Buy both bonuses a few times with play money and compare how often each beats its price.
  • Try Grinny FeatureSpins briefly to see how much a guaranteed grin is worth on average against its 50x cost.
  • Open the game info and confirm the RTP build, bet limits and max win shown by the casino.

If you liked the coin and pot mechanics of Le Bandit, Wicked Grin offers a similar collect style payoff in a simpler, reel by reel form.

How do Wicked Grin symbols work?

When a Wicked Grin or Epic Wicked Grin lands on the bottom row, it expands up its reel after wins are paid and turns every position into a coin or a multiplier. Coins pay from 1x to 500x the bet. An Epic grin also makes every other grin on the grid expand.

How do you trigger the bonus games?

An FS or Super FS scatter must land on the bottom row. It expands over its reel and each covered position shows 1, 2 or 3 spins, added together for 5 to 30 free spins. FS leads to Stash N Stack, Super FS to Coin Craze.

What is the max win in Wicked Grin?

The maximum win is 10,000x your bet. Hacksaw states it can be reached in the base game and in every bonus mode, including the bought rounds.

How much does the bonus buy cost?

In the demo session, Stash N Stack cost 80x the bet and Coin Craze cost 200x. BonusHunt FeatureSpins cost 3x per spin and Grinny FeatureSpins 50x per spin. Availability depends on the casino and jurisdiction.

Is Wicked Grin high volatility?

Hacksaw rates it 3 out of 5, so it sits in the middle of the studio's range. Expect regular small hits from symbols and coins, with the large wins coming from multipliers and the two bonus games.
