What Wisdom of Athena 1000 is
Pragmatic Play launched Wisdom of Athena 1000 on September 30, 2024, as a special edition of its Athena slot and a new entry in the 1000 series. The goddess stands beside the reels at the top of Mount Olympus, and her shield and helmet appear among the symbols. The press release frames the edition simply: twice the win potential of the original, with x1000 multipliers and a 10,000x max win.
The game is a pay anywhere slot built on a 6x5 grid with an extra row of six locked positions on top, which is why Pragmatic describes it as 6x6. Wins come from 8 or more matching symbols anywhere, winners tumble away, and each chain of tumbles can open the locked row one position at a time. Pragmatic's rules screen carries its standard high volatility note.
How it differs from the original Wisdom of Athena
The original Wisdom of Athena arrived on June 26, 2023. Comparing Pragmatic's own pages and demo server data for both games, the 1000 edition keeps the core rules and changes the numbers at the top end:
| Feature | Wisdom of Athena (2023) | Wisdom of Athena 1000 (2024) |
|---|---|---|
| Multiplier range | x2 to x500 | x2 to x1000 |
| Max win | 5,000x | 10,000x |
| RTP | 96.07% | 96.00% |
| Win rule | 8+ symbols anywhere | 8+ symbols anywhere |
| Locked top row | Unlocked by tumbles | Unlocked by tumbles |
| Free spins | 10 from 4+ scatters, 5 more for 3+ in the round | 10 from 4+ scatters, 5 more for 3+ in the round |
The paytable values on the demo server are identical for both games, and so are the locked row rules. The trade is plain: you give up 0.07 percentage points of RTP in exchange for one extra multiplier value, x1000, and a cap twice as high. Every other multiplier value from x2 to x500 is shared.
How a spin works step by step
- Set the stake. A spin costs 20 coins, so your total bet equals twenty coins. Ante Bet raises it to 25.
- The grid fills. Thirty symbols land on the 6x5 area, and the top row stays locked.
- Symbols are counted. This is scatter pays: 8 or more copies of a symbol anywhere form a win.
- Winners tumble. Paid symbols vanish, the rest fall and new ones drop in. The tumble repeats while new wins appear, with no limit.
- The top row opens. Tumbles in the same spin unlock top row positions from left to right, and each open position joins the grid with a live symbol.
- The sequence is paid. All wins are totaled, multiplier values on screen are added together and the sum multiplies the total.
In the base game the row locks again on the next spin. Scatters do not explode in tumbles; they stay put until the last cascade of the spin, which helps a slow build toward the bonus.
The locked top row
This is the mechanic that sets the game apart. Positions above the six reels open one by one, left to right. The rules word the thresholds like this:
| Top row position | Unlocks |
|---|---|
| Reel 1 | After the first tumble |
| Reel 2 | After 3 more tumbles |
| Reel 3 | After 6 more tumbles |
| Reel 4 | After 9 more tumbles |
| Reel 5 | After 12 more tumbles |
| Reel 6 | After 15 more tumbles |
Each open position adds a symbol to the count, and since wins depend on how many copies sit on the grid, a fuller grid makes 12 and 15 symbol hits easier to reach. In the base game every spin starts from a locked row, so the later positions need one very long chain. In free spins progress carries from spin to spin, which makes the far end of the row far more reachable.
Symbols and paytable
Nine regular symbols pay in four bands. The demo server publishes the values per symbol rank; here they are as multiples of your total bet.
| Symbol rank | 8 to 9 | 10 to 11 | 12 to 14 | 15 or more |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 (top) | 5x | 10x | 20x | 50x |
| 2 | 2.5x | 5x | 10x | 25x |
| 3 | 1.5x | 3x | 6x | 15x |
| 4 | 1x | 2x | 4x | 10x |
| 5 | 0.75x | 1.5x | 3x | 7.5x |
| 6 | 0.5x | 1x | 2x | 5x |
| 7 | 0.4x | 0.75x | 1.5x | 4x |
| 8 | 0.3x | 0.5x | 1x | 3x |
| 9 (lowest) | 0.25x | 0.4x | 0.75x | 2.5x |
The scatter pays in the base game: 2x for four, 15x for five and 100x for six or more. The 15 or more band pays 2.5 to about 3.3 times the 12 to 14 values, so the extra positions from the top row can push a hit into a far better bracket.
Multipliers up to x1000
Multiplier symbols land on any spin or tumble, in the base game and in free spins. Each takes one of 23 values: x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x8, x10, x12, x15, x20, x25, x30, x40, x50, x60, x80, x100, x150, x200, x300, x400, x500 or x1000. At the end of a chain all values on screen are added, as our multipliers guide explains for additive types.
Worked example at a 1.00 bet: twelve copies of the second ranked symbol pay 10.00, a tumble adds nine of the sixth ranked symbol for 0.50, and a x30 and a x5 land during the chain. The sequence totals 10.50, the multipliers add to x35, and the spin pays 367.50.
Free spins with a total multiplier
Four or more scatters award 10 free spins, and three or more during the round add 5 more. The round starts with the top row fully locked, but every tumble now counts toward the unlocks and open positions stay open until the end. Per the rules, every multiplier that lands is added to a total multiplier, and that total multiplies any win for the rest of the round.
Worked example at a 1.00 bet:
- Spin 2: a x20 lands on a spin with no win. It still joins the total, now x20.
- Spin 4: a chain pays 2.00 and a x10 lands. The total becomes x30 and the chain pays 60.00.
- Spin 7: a chain pays 1.50 with no new multiplier. The total of x30 still applies, so it pays 45.00.
- Spin 9: a chain pays 4.00 and a x100 lands. The total reaches x130 and the chain pays 520.00.
Because the total never resets and the grid keeps growing, later spins in a round can combine a bigger grid with a bigger total. The free spins total is paid when the round ends.
Ante Bet, bonus buy and the 10,000x cap
The Ante Bet raises the bet from 20 to 25 coins, 25% more, and puts more scatters on the reels for a higher chance of free spins. It disables the buy. The bonus buy costs 100x your bet where allowed, and the triggering spin can land 4, 5 or 6 scatters. The demo server lists the same 96.00% RTP for regular, ante and bought play.
The cap is 10,000x, or 8,000x of the raised stake with Ante Bet on, the same cash amount. A round that hits it ends immediately. The server puts the chance at about 1 in 3.9 million spins in regular play. A festive edition, Wisdom of Athena 1000 Xmas, followed on November 27, 2025, with extra special bets and a Super Free Spins buy. If you want the 1000 formula without the locked row, Gates of Olympus 1000 is the closest relative.
How to test it in the free demo
The demo above runs on Pragmatic's own server, so you see the real rules and paytable. Try this:
- Count how often a base game spin opens even the first top row position. That shows how rare long chains are.
- In free spins, watch how far the row gets by the last spin; it tells you how much the round can grow.
- Compare a stretch with Ante Bet against one without, and buy a few rounds to see the spread around 100x.
- Open the rules screen and confirm the RTP and bet limits, since operators can run other builds.
Pick a stake that lets your balance survive a few hundred spins. With high volatility and a 10,000x cap, most sessions end with no standout win.
Where to play Wisdom of Athena 1000 for real money
Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of Wisdom of Athena 1000?
The official RTP is 96.00%, and Pragmatic's demo server shows the same figure for regular play, Ante Bet and the bonus buy. Operators may offer other builds, so check the RTP line in the rules screen of the game you load.
What is the max win in Wisdom of Athena 1000?
The maximum win is 10,000x your bet, twice the 5,000x of the original. With Ante Bet active the rules show 8,000x of the raised stake, which is the same cash amount. A round that reaches the cap ends at once.
How is it different from the original Wisdom of Athena?
The grid, locked row, paytable and 10 free spins are the same. The 1000 edition adds a x1000 multiplier on top of the original x2 to x500 range, doubles the cap from 5,000x to 10,000x and lists RTP at 96.00% instead of 96.07%.
How does the locked top row work?
A row of six locked positions sits above the 6x5 grid. Tumbles open it left to right: the first tumble opens reel 1, and further positions need longer chains. In the base game it relocks every spin; in free spins the open positions stay for the whole round.
How do you trigger free spins?
Land four or more scatters anywhere to win 10 free spins. Three or more scatters during the round add 5 more. In the base game the scatters also pay 2x for four, 15x for five and 100x for six or more.
How do multipliers work in the free spins?
Every multiplier symbol that lands is added to a total multiplier for the round, and that total multiplies any win until the round ends. It never resets during the feature, so early multipliers boost every later win.
How much does the bonus buy cost?
The buy costs 100x your total bet, and the triggering spin can land 4, 5 or 6 scatters. It is disabled while Ante Bet is on and is not offered in every jurisdiction.
