What Gates of Olympus 1000 changes

Pragmatic Play released Gates of Olympus 1000 in 2024 as a direct upgrade of the original Gates of Olympus. The grid, the symbols, the tumbles and the free spins structure all carry over. What moves are the numbers at the top end:

The practical effect is a longer tail. Most sessions will feel just like the original, because small orbs and small gem wins make up the bulk of play. The difference shows up in the rare rounds where a large orb lands on a strong sequence, and the higher cap means those rounds are allowed to run much further.

How a spin plays out

1. Thirty symbols fill the 6x5 grid.
2. Any symbol appearing 8 or more times anywhere forms a win. This is scatter pays, so position and adjacency are irrelevant.
3. Winning symbols disappear, the rest fall and new ones drop in. The tumble repeats while new wins keep forming.
4. Multiplier orbs that land during the sequence stay on screen.
5. When the tumbling stops, all wins are totaled, orb values are added together and the sum multiplies the sequence win.

As in the original, an orb only pays if its sequence contains at least one win. A x1000 orb on a spin with no winning cluster is just decoration.

Symbols and payouts

The symbol set follows the original: five gems (blue, green, yellow, purple and red) as the low tier and the chalice, ring, hourglass and crown as the premiums. There is still no wild. Payouts are grouped into three count bands, 8 to 9, 10 to 11 and 12 or more. The x1000 orbs in practice

Orb values are added, never multiplied together, which our multipliers guide explains step by step. Here is how that plays out with the wider range.

At a 1.00 stake, a tumble sequence pays 2.50 in total and two orbs land: x25 and x10. They add up to x35, so the sequence pays 2.50 x 35 = 87.50. Swap the x25 for a x1000 orb and the same 2.50 sequence becomes 2.50 x 1010 = 2,525.00. That gap is the whole appeal of this edition, and also its limitation: the top values are the rare ones, and most orbs you see will be in the low range.

Free spins and the total multiplier

Four or more scatters trigger 15 free spins. The trigger itself pays 3x for 4 scatters, 5x for 5 and 100x for 6. Three scatters during the round add 5 more spins.

Inside the bonus, orbs from winning sequences feed a running total multiplier that lasts until the round ends. A worked example at a 1.00 stake:

• Spin 3: a sequence wins 3.00 with orbs of x20 and x5. The total becomes x25 and the sequence pays 75.00.
• Spin 7: a sequence wins 1.20 with a x50 orb. The total rises to x75 and the sequence pays 90.00.
• Spin 12: a sequence wins 4.00 with no orb. The x75 total still applies, so it pays 300.00.

That round would return 465.00 plus any scatter payout, from three winning sequences. With orbs up to x1000, the total can climb far faster than in the original, which is where the 15,000x ceiling comes into reach.

Ante Bet and bonus buy costs

The Ante Bet adds 25% to your stake and doubles your chance of triggering free spins. A 1.00 bet becomes 1.25 per spin. Over 200 spins that is 250.00 instead of 200.00, so the question is whether twice the trigger rate is worth the extra 50.00 to you.

The bonus buy costs 100x your stake and starts free spins immediately. At a 1.00 bet that is 100.00 per round. Note the RTP detail: the buy runs at 96.49% against 96.50% for regular play, a tiny difference, but it confirms the buy is not a better deal mathematically, only a faster one.

Original or 1000, which one to pick

Because the RTP is the same and the rules are identical, the choice comes down to how you feel about the tail of outcomes. The original caps out at 5,000x, so its biggest rounds end sooner. The 1000 edition lets a lucky bonus keep growing to 15,000x, which makes it the natural pick if you play for the rare standout result rather than for steady small returns.

What does not change is the everyday rhythm. Most spins still produce small gem wins or nothing, and most orbs still land in the low range. If the original felt too slow for your budget, the 1000 will feel the same in the base game.
