Bottom line

Under the sky castle artwork sits a tidy, well tested engine: 96.50% in regular, Ante Bet and buy modes, a 5,000x ceiling and a free spins multiplier that never drops. Expect dry spells between bonuses, but when the running total gets going, few games build tension quite like it.

What we like
  • A 96.50% RTP in base play, with Ante Bet and on a buy
  • Multiplier symbols worth x2 to x500 are summed per tumble chain
  • A running multiplier total lasts the whole free spins round
  • Six or more scatters pay 100x as well as starting the bonus
What to keep in mind
  • High volatility means long stretches without a decent hit
  • Its 5,000x cap trails the 1000 and Super Scatter editions
  • In the base game, multipliers are wiped after each chain

A sky palace built on proven maths

Released by Pragmatic Play on 23 September 2021, Starlight Princess was pitched it as its first video slot inspired by anime. The setting is a castle hidden above the clouds. The Princess hovers beside the reels and, every so often, sends winged orbs carrying multipliers down onto the grid. Strip away the art and you find a proven set of rules: six reels, five rows, wins for symbols anywhere, cascading tumbles and multipliers that combine by addition. Pragmatic labels the game highly volatile.

Anyone who has played Gates of Olympus will notice how close the two are. Both use 6x5 grids, pay for 8 or more symbols in any position, list 96.50% RTP, stop at 5,000x and offer the bonus for 100x. The real choice is the mood: Greek thunder or pastel anime skies. All the money examples below use CA$2 per spin, which works out to 20 coins of CA$0.10 each.

Before you play from Canada

Online gambling in Canada is regulated by each province, not federally. Ontario and Alberta operate their own regulated online markets, and this Canadian edition is not aimed at players there. The minimum age is 19 in most provinces and 18 in Alberta, Quebec and Manitoba. For sites that accept familiar bank payments, see our page on Interac casinos, or read the 1WIN review for a site that offers CAD accounts. Never treat a slot as a way to earn money; set a budget you can afford to lose.

Spin mechanics in six steps

  1. Choose your stake. A standard spin costs 20 coins. Turn on Ante Bet and the price rises to 25 coins.
  2. The grid fills. Thirty symbols drop into six columns of five.
  3. Symbols are tallied. Under scatter pays, any symbol showing 8 or more times anywhere wins. Position and adjacency do not matter.
  4. Winners vanish. Paying symbols are cleared, survivors slide down and fresh symbols fill the gaps. This tumble carries on while new wins keep forming.
  5. Multiplier orbs wait. Each orb that lands during the chain stays in place until nothing more pays.
  6. Payout. The game adds up every win in the chain, sums all orb values on screen and applies that combined figure to the chain total.

An orb that lands on a losing spin is wasted. A big base game result therefore needs a paying chain and at least one orb in the same sequence.

Paytable in Canadian dollars

Nine regular symbols and one scatter, the Princess, make up the reels. A regular symbol pays according to how many copies are on screen, in three bands. Pragmatic does not publish names for the regular symbols, so they are ranked here from the lowest to the most valuable, with the biggest band first. Values are multiples of your total base bet; the last column shows the top band at a CA$2 stake.

Rank (9 = lowest)12+ copies10 or 118 or 912+ at CA$2
Rank 92x0.75x0.25xCA$4
Rank 84x0.9x0.4xCA$8
Rank 75x1x0.5xCA$10
Rank 68x1.2x0.8xCA$16
Rank 510x1.5x1xCA$20
Rank 412x2x1.5xCA$24
Rank 315x5x2xCA$30
Rank 225x10x2.5xCA$50
Rank 1 (top)50x25x10xCA$100

The step into the 12+ band is where values leap. Rank 5 moves from 1.5x to 10x the moment an eleventh copy becomes a twelfth, so one extra symbol from a tumble can be worth more than six times the previous hit. At the bottom of the table, eight or nine copies of rank 9 return just CA$0.50 at a CA$2 stake, which tells you how much the game leans on multipliers.

Scatters pay in their own right too. The scale runs 3x for four of them, 5x for five, and 100x once six or more show, which is CA$200 at our stake. Four or more also open the bonus.

How the multiplier orbs work

Orbs are coloured green, blue, pink or orange, and they appear in both the base game and free spins. Each carries a random value somewhere from x2 to x500. Our guide to multipliers compares the common styles; this game uses the additive kind.

  • Orbs stay put until the tumble chain finishes.
  • Their values are then summed, so x20 plus x5 gives x25, never x100.
  • The combined figure applies to the whole chain win, not to one symbol group.
  • Outside the bonus nothing is carried forward; the next chain starts clean.

A base game example at CA$2: the opening drop shows twelve of rank 2 for 25x, which is CA$50. A tumble then adds eight of rank 6 for 0.8x, or CA$1.60, and two orbs worth x20 and x5 land along the way. The chain totals CA$51.60, the orbs combine to x25, and the spin pays CA$1,290.

Free spins with a multiplier that keeps climbing

Land at least four scatters in any position to trigger 15 free spins. Here the multiplier stops resetting. Every orb that lands during a winning tumble joins a total multiplier for the round, and that updated total is applied to the win in which it landed. It can only rise until the round ends.

Worked round at CA$2:

  1. Spin 3: a chain pays CA$6 and a x10 orb lands. The total is now x10, so you collect CA$60.
  2. Spin 9: a chain pays CA$3 but brings no orb. It pays CA$3, since the total only applies to chains that add a fresh orb.
  3. Spin 11: a CA$8 chain arrives with orbs of x5 and x20. The total climbs to x35, paying CA$280.
  4. Spin 14: a CA$4 chain lands with a x50. The total reaches x85, and that chain pays CA$340.

Raw wins in this round come to just CA$21, yet the round returns CA$683. Early orbs carry extra weight because they lift every later chain that adds a new orb. That is the heart of the game and the reason a slow start in the bonus can still turn around late.

Ante Bet and the feature buy

Two options change how a session feels. The Ante Bet adds a quarter to the stake (25 coins instead of 20) and in exchange doubles your odds of landing the bonus. At a CA$2 base bet you would pay CA$2.50 per spin while it stays on.

Buying the bonus through the bonus buy option is priced at 100x the bet, CA$200 at our stake, and takes you directly into the 15 free spins wherever the jurisdiction allows it. The game server lists 96.50% for normal play, Ante Bet and bought rounds, so the build we checked charges no RTP penalty for either option. The difference lies in variance. A purchased round may return several times its price or a small fraction of it, and a run of buys can empty a budget fast.

The cap is 5,000x the base bet, or CA$10,000 at CA$2. With Ante Bet on, the limit appears in the rules as 4,000x of the higher stake, which is the same cash figure.

RTP, volatility and ceiling

Pragmatic lists the RTP at 96.50%, with high volatility and a 5,000x top prize. In practice that means many short sessions end below where they started, and most of the value arrives in occasional strong bonus rounds. These figures belong to the standard build; open the rules screen of the version you load and confirm the RTP line before staking Canadian dollars.

Sequels in the series

Starlight Princess 1000 followed on 26 October 2023. It keeps the 6x5 grid, tumbles and scatter-triggered bonus, but stretches orb values to between x2 and x1,000. Starlight Princess Super Scatter landed on 30 October 2025 and brings in Super Scatter symbols. If the bonus is triggered with Super Scatters among the scatters, an instant prize is added: 100x for one, 500x for two, 5,000x for three and 50,000x for four, the top figure in the series. Its orbs still run up to x500, and four scatters still open 15 free spins.

The 2021 original is the most compact of the three and the clearest place to learn how the running total behaves before trying the bigger editions.

Testing it in the demo

The free demo on this page runs the complete game with play credits. To make the session useful:

  • Spin no fewer than 200 times on a fixed stake and note how many chains actually include an orb.
  • Run a second, similar block with Ante Bet active and see whether the bonus turns up more often.
  • Buy a few bonuses with play credits and note how far each one lands from the 100x price.
  • Open the rules and note the RTP, stake limits and how the maximum win is worded; these differ by operator and region.

When you move to real money, pick a stake that lets your budget cover a few hundred spins. With high volatility and a 5,000x ceiling, most sessions will end without a headline win, and that is simply how this kind of slot behaves.

Questions from Canadian players

What RTP does Starlight Princess have?

Pragmatic lists 96.50%, and the game server shows the same figure for standard spins, Ante Bet spins and the bought feature. Some operators install other builds, so confirm the percentage on the information screen before any real-money spin in Canadian dollars.

What triggers the bonus round?

You need at least four Princess scatters anywhere on the grid for 15 free spins. The trigger spin also pays them: four give 3x, five give 5x, six or more give 100x, measured against your total bet. At CA$2, six scatters are worth CA$200.

Are the multipliers added or multiplied?

Added. In the base game the orb values on screen are combined after the last tumble and applied once to that chain's total. During free spins each orb from a winning tumble joins a total that keeps growing until the round is over.

What is the biggest possible win?

Wins stop at 5,000x the base bet, which is CA$10,000 at a CA$2 stake. With Ante Bet active the cap reads 4,000x of the raised bet, the same amount in cash, because Ante Bet adds 25% to each spin.

How much does the bonus buy cost?

Expect to pay 100x the bet; the 15 free spins then begin immediately, where the jurisdiction permits a buy. At CA$1 that is CA$100. Its listed RTP is 96.50%, but individual bought rounds vary hugely around the price.

Is Ante Bet worth switching on?

It makes every spin 25% dearer (25 coins rather than 20) and doubles the chance of triggering free spins. The listed RTP stays at 96.50%. It suits players who want bonuses to arrive more often and accept a higher cost per spin.

Can I play Starlight Princess legally in Canada?

Gambling is regulated by each province. Ontario and Alberta have their own regulated online markets, which this edition does not target. You must be 19, or 18 in Alberta, Quebec and Manitoba. The free demo needs no account.
