Moon Princess at a glance
The release date was 26 July 2017, and Play'n GO files the game among its grid titles. Visually it is pure anime: a glowing night sky, sparkling gems and three heroines named Love, Star and Storm. On the board they act as the top-paying symbols, but their real job is to step in with special powers that rearrange the grid when a spin goes dead.
Forget reels and paylines. The playing field is a square of 25 cells, five across and five down. You win whenever three, four or five matching symbols sit next to each other in a straight line, either horizontally or vertically. All rows and columns count at the same time, so a single symbol in the middle of the board can feed two separate wins. If you are new to grids, our page on paylines, ways and clusters shows how this layout differs from a classic line slot.
Key numbers from the provider: a default return of 96.50%, a top prize of 5,000 times your stake, and spins priced from 0.20 up to 100 base units. The naira limits at any particular operator are printed on the rules screen of the game you open.
One spin from start to finish
- Pick your total bet. Behind the scenes the game splits it into 20 coins, but you never handle them. You only choose the total.
- The board fills up. Twenty-five symbols drop into place.
- Lines are scanned. Every row and every column is checked for three or more identical symbols. Overlapping wins are all paid.
- Winners vanish. Paid symbols are cleared, everything above slides down and new symbols fill the holes. This is a tumble chain and it keeps going for as long as new wins form.
- The multiplier climbs. Each fresh drop pushes the multiplier up a notch, which makes late wins in a long chain pay better than early ones.
- A Moon wild can be born. When a win of exactly three symbols is removed, the wild may appear where the middle symbol stood.
- Still nothing? The princess displayed at the right side of the screen may use her Girl Power to save the spin.
When a base game spin ends, the multiplier falls back to its starting level. Free spins behave differently, and that difference is the whole point of the game.
Paytable in naira
Play'n GO quotes every payout as a multiple of the total bet. To make the numbers feel real, the last column shows what each top combination returns on a ₦200 spin before any multiplier is applied:
| Symbol | 3 in line | 4 in line | 5 in line | 5 in line at ₦200 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Moon wild | 1x | 3x | 50x | ₦10,000 |
| Love, Star or Storm (same princess) | 0.30x | 1x | 10x | ₦2,000 |
| Mixed princesses | 0.20x | 0.50x | 5x | ₦1,000 |
| Higher item pair | 0.15x | 0.30x | 3x | ₦600 |
| Lower item pair | 0.10x | 0.20x | 2x | ₦400 |
| Empty grid during free spins | 100x the bet, ₦20,000 at ₦200 | |||
The bottom of the table tells you a lot. A short line of three lower items on a ₦200 spin returns just ₦20, a tenth of what you paid. One win on its own rarely matters; the money is in long chains, five-in-line hits and the multiplier stacked on top. Do not overlook the mixed princess row: a line mixing Love, Star and Storm still pays, only at a smaller rate than three copies of one heroine.
How the drop multiplier and the wild behave
Every new drop inside a chain lifts the multiplier on the left of the screen, and any win in that drop is multiplied by the value it shows at that moment. Play'n GO does not publish the size of each step, so watch the meter in the demo to learn its rhythm.
The Moon is a full wild and stands in for any symbol. It never lands on its own like a regular symbol; it is created in the middle cell of a three-symbol win that has just been cleared. One extra rule is easy to miss and very important: if the only symbols left on the board are wilds, the game removes them as well. That rule exists to push you towards an empty board, because an empty board is the only door into free spins.
Princess powers and the Trinity meter
When a base spin produces no win at all, the princess on the right side may wake up and act. Each heroine has her own move:
- Love chooses one group of symbols and turns it into another symbol.
- Star throws one or two wilds onto the board.
- Storm wipes out two groups of symbols at once.
Above the board sits the Princess Trinity meter with three segments. It is charged only by wins made from princess symbols, and a wild inside such a win counts. A line of three fills one segment, four fill two and five fill all three. With a full meter, once the current chain has ended, you receive a single bonus round, and its multiplier starts again from the bottom. During it the three heroines act one after another in an order that never changes, each one acting when a drop brings no new win, until all three powers are spent.
Free spins: empty the board, then choose
Wipe the board completely and the free spins start. You then select a princess. Your pick decides how many spins you begin with, how many more a refilled meter adds, and which power fires on every spin that fails to win:
| Princess | Spins to start | Spins added per full meter | Power on a losing free spin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Love | 4 | 4 | Turns a group of symbols into another |
| Star | 5 | 3 | Drops one or two wilds |
| Storm | 8 | 2 | Removes two groups of symbols |
Three rules make this round special. First, the multiplier is never reset between free spins and can build all the way to x20. Second, filling the Trinity meter again gives extra spins, with a hard limit of 20 free spins for the whole round. Third, clearing the entire grid during free spins pays an instant 100x your bet. The Trinity bonus round itself is disabled while free spins run.
There is no obviously correct princess. Storm offers the longest start, which gives the multiplier time to grow, but adds only two spins per refill. Love starts with just four but adds four each time. Star sits between them and her wilds help both normal wins and grid clears.
Worked example on a ₦200 bet
Suppose you play ₦200 a spin, clear the board and choose Storm, so you start with eight free spins.
- Spin two. The meter reads x3 and three Storm symbols line up. That is 0.30 x ₦200 x 3 = ₦180, a small but useful hit.
- Spin five. The multiplier has crept up to x10. Five Star symbols fill a column: 10 x ₦200 x 10 = ₦20,000. Being a five-princess win, it also charges the full meter and adds two spins.
- Final spins. At the x20 ceiling, five Moon wilds across a row pay 50 x ₦200 x 20 = ₦200,000, or 1,000 times the bet. If the same drop empties the board, another ₦20,000 lands on top.
The identical five-Star column in the base game, early in a chain, would pay a small part of that. That is how the game is built: almost all of its value is pushed into long free spins rounds. Whatever happens, one round cannot pay more than 5,000x, which on ₦200 means ₦1,000,000.
RTP versions, volatility and the cap
Operators can choose among five return settings for this title: the 96.50% default plus 94.51%, 91.49%, 87.50% or, at the bottom, 84.50%. The three lowest are not allowed for Malta-licensed operators. In RTP terms, staking ₦100,000 over a very long period gives back about ₦96,500 on the default build and about ₦84,500 on the weakest one, so the house keeps roughly three times as much on the low setting.
For volatility, Play'n GO first rated the game very high, ten on a ten-point scale, in its 2017 rules; the current sheet gives it 6 on a newer scale. Expect plenty of small chains and occasional much larger rounds. The provider estimates the chance of the full 5,000x at under one in a billion spins, so think of it as the ceiling rather than a goal. You cannot buy the bonus; free spins only come from an empty grid.
Legal note for Nigeria
Since the Supreme Court judgment of November 2024, gambling in Nigeria is regulated at state level, not by one national body. If you ever play for real money, confirm that the operator holds a licence that covers your state, play only if you are 18 or older and never try to get around a block. Our demo runs purely on play credits.
Using the demo well
The demo here comes straight from Play'n GO and runs on practice credits. Our demo guide explains the basics; with Moon Princess, use it to answer a few questions:
- How quickly does the multiplier meter climb in a chain, and when does it reset?
- How long, in spins, before you manage your first full board clear?
- How often does a princess rescue a dead spin, and does her power usually lead to a win?
- Which RTP and bet range does the rules screen list for this build?
Budget and stake size
Because the big returns hide behind a full board clear, your balance must survive long runs of small chains. Plan for at least a few hundred spins at your stake: with ₦20,000 for a session, a ₦50 or ₦100 spin is far more realistic than ₦500. If you like grid games, compare this with Sugar Rush, which stores value in multiplier spots on the grid rather than a running meter. Set your stop point before the first spin and keep the stake level instead of raising it to chase free spins.
Where to play Moon Princess with naira
Questions Nigerian players ask
What RTP does Moon Princess pay?
By default the game returns 96.50%. Lower builds also exist at 94.51%, 91.49% and 87.50%, with 84.50% the minimum, and each operator decides which one to run, so check the rules screen of the game you open.
How do I get free spins in Moon Princess?
Clear all 25 cells of the grid. Wilds that are left alone on the board are removed too, which helps. After that you pick a princess: Storm starts with 8 spins, Star with 5, Love with 4.
How far does the multiplier climb?
Every drop adds to it. A base game spin wipes it back to the start when it finishes; during free spins it is kept between spins and tops out at x20.
What are the princess powers?
Love swaps a chosen symbol group for some other symbol, Star places one or two extra wilds, Storm deletes two groups. During free spins the princess you picked uses her power whenever a spin fails to win.
What is the top win in naira?
The cap is 5,000 times the bet, so a ₦200 spin can return at most ₦1,000,000. By Play'n GO's estimate that happens less often than once per billion spins.
Is there a bonus buy in Moon Princess?
No. Free spins only start after a full grid clear, and they can be extended by recharging the princess meter, with a limit of 20 free spins in total.
Is it legal to play Moon Princess for money in Nigeria?
Gambling is regulated state by state since the Supreme Court ruling of November 2024. Use only an operator licensed for your state, be 18 or older, and never bypass blocks. The demo here costs nothing.
