What Moon Princess is
Play'n GO released Moon Princess on 26 July 2017 and files it under its grid slots. The setting is a bright, anime-styled night sky ruled by three princesses: Love, Star and Storm. Each of them is a high-paying symbol on the board and, more importantly, the owner of a special power that reshapes the grid.
There are no reels and no paylines in the usual sense. The game is played on a 5x5 grid of 25 positions, and a win is three or more identical symbols in a straight line, horizontally or vertically. Every row and column is active at once, so one symbol can belong to two wins at the same time. Winning symbols disappear, the rest fall down, new ones fill the gaps, and a multiplier rises with each new drop. Our guide to paylines, ways and cluster pays explains how this kind of grid differs from line slots.
The provider lists a 5,000x maximum win, a default return of 96.50% and a bet range from 0.20 to 100 per spin.
How a spin works, step by step
- Set the stake. The bet runs from 0.20 to 100. Internally the game uses 20 fixed coins, which you never see; you simply pick a total bet.
- The grid fills. 25 symbols drop into the 5x5 board.
- Wins are checked. Any three, four or five identical symbols in a row or in a column pay. Overlapping wins all count.
- Symbols drop. Winning symbols are removed, the remaining ones fall, and new symbols land on top. This is a tumble sequence, and it repeats while new wins appear.
- The multiplier rises. With every new drop, the win multiplier increases, so later wins in the chain are worth more than the first.
- A wild may appear. When a three-symbol win is removed, the Moon wild can land in the spot of its middle symbol and help the next drop.
- No win at all? The active princess may use her Girl Power to rescue the spin.
In the base game, the multiplier goes back to its starting value when the spin ends. That reset is what separates the base game from the free spins, where the multiplier is carried from spin to spin.
Symbols and paytable
The board holds eight symbols: the Moon wild, the three princesses and four low-paying mystical items. Play'n GO's rules sheet lists payouts for a 1.00 bet, so each value below is a multiple of your total stake:
| Symbol | 5 in a row | 4 in a row | 3 in a row |
|---|---|---|---|
| Moon (wild) | 50x | 3x | 1x |
| Each princess (Love, Star, Storm) | 10x | 1x | 0.30x |
| Any mix of princesses | 5x | 0.50x | 0.20x |
| Two higher item symbols | 3x | 0.30x | 0.15x |
| Two lower item symbols | 2x | 0.20x | 0.10x |
| Clear grid in free spins | 100x | ||
Read the table with the multiplier in mind. A single row of three low items returns a tenth of your stake, which is why the first win of a spin rarely matters on its own. Value comes from long drop chains, five-in-a-row hits and the multiplier stacking on top of them. The line for mixed princesses is easy to miss: a row of Love, Star and Storm together still pays, at a lower rate than three of one princess.
The drop multiplier and the Moon wild
Each new drop in a chain raises the multiplier, and every win in that drop is multiplied by its current value. The provider does not publish the step size, so watch the meter on the left side of the screen in the demo: you will see it tick up with each drop.
The Moon wild substitutes for every other symbol. It does not land like a normal symbol; it appears in the middle position of a removed three-symbol win. There is one more rule that matters a lot: when wild symbols are the only symbols left on the grid, they are removed too. That rule exists to help you reach an empty board, which is the only way into free spins.
Girl Power and the Princess Trinity meter
On a spin with no win, the princess shown on the right of the screen has a chance to act. Each one does something different:
- Love picks one set of symbols and transforms it into another symbol.
- Star adds one or two wilds to the grid.
- Storm destroys two sets of symbols and removes them from the board.
Above that sits the Princess Trinity meter, which has three sections. Only wins made of princess symbols charge it, and the wild can be part of such a win. Three in a row fills one section, four fills two and five fills all three. Once the meter is full and the chain has ended, you get one free round with the multiplier reset. During that round Love, Star and Storm take turns: whenever a drop produces no further win, the next princess acts, until all three powers have been used. The order is the same every time.
Free spins: clear the grid, pick a princess
Removing all 25 symbols triggers the free spins. You then choose a princess, and that choice sets both the number of spins and the power that fires on every non-winning spin:
| Princess | Starting spins | Extra spins per full meter | Power on every non-winning spin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Love | 4 | 4 | Transforms a set of symbols |
| Star | 5 | 3 | Adds one or two wilds |
| Storm | 8 | 2 | Destroys two sets of symbols |
Three rules make the round worth waiting for. The multiplier is not reset between spins, and it can grow up to x20. Filling the princess meter again adds spins, up to a maximum of 20 free spins in total. And if you clear the whole grid during free spins, you collect an instant prize of 100x your total bet. The Princess Trinity re-spin is switched off during the round.
The choice is a real trade-off. Storm gives the most spins to build the multiplier but the fewest extra spins on a refill. Love starts short but refills generously. Star sits in between and adds wilds, which help both wins and grid clears.
Worked example: what a free spins chain pays
Take a 1.00 stake. You clear the grid and pick Storm, so eight spins begin.
- Early spin. A row of three Star symbols lands while the multiplier shows x2. It pays 0.30 x 2 = 0.60.
- Mid round. The multiplier has been carried over and now reads x8. A column of five Love symbols drops in and pays 10 x 1.00 x 8 = 80.00. Because it is a princess win, it also fills the whole meter and adds two spins.
- Late round. With the meter at the x20 ceiling, a row of five Moon wilds pays 50 x 20 = 1,000.00, a thousand times the stake. If that drop also empties the board, the clear-grid prize adds 100.00.
The same five-Love hit in the base game, with the multiplier at its starting value early in a chain, would return a fraction of that. The whole design pushes value into long free spins rounds, and the provider caps any round at 5,000x the stake.
RTP builds, volatility and the 5,000x cap
Play'n GO ships five return settings: 96.50%, 94.51%, 91.49%, 87.50% and 84.50%. The default is the 96% build, and the three lowest are not offered to operators licensed in Malta. Over a long run, RTP of 96.50% returns about 96.50 per 100 staked, while 84.50% returns about 84.50, so the lowest build costs more than three times as much per spin.
On volatility, the original 2017 rules sheet called the game very high, ten out of ten on the provider's scale; the current sheet rates it 6 on Play'n GO's newer scale. In plain terms, expect frequent small chains and rare, much larger rounds. The provider puts the chance of hitting the full 5,000x cap at less than one in a billion spins, so treat it as a ceiling, not a target. There is no bonus buy, so the free spins come only from a cleared grid.
How to test it in the demo
The demo on this page is Play'n GO's own practice version with virtual credits. Our demo guide covers the basics; for this game, focus on a few things:
- Watch the multiplier meter through several chains to see how fast it climbs and when it resets.
- Count how many spins pass before a grid clear. That is the real cost of reaching free spins.
- Note how often each princess power fires on a dead spin, and what it changes.
- Open the rules screen and confirm the RTP figure and the bet range of that build.
Bankroll and stake sizing
Because the big payouts depend on a full grid clear, your balance needs room for long stretches of small chains. A balance worth a few hundred spins at your chosen stake is a sensible minimum. If you compare grid games, Sugar Rush builds value through position multipliers instead of a running meter, which spreads results differently. Set a stop point before you start and keep the stake flat rather than chasing a bonus.

Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of Moon Princess?
The default build returns 96.50%. Play'n GO also offers 94.51%, 91.49%, 87.50% and 84.50% versions, and the casino chooses which one runs. The figure for the version you open is shown in the game rules.
How do you trigger free spins in Moon Princess?
You have to clear all 25 symbols from the grid. When only wild symbols are left, they are removed as well, which helps. You then pick Love for 4 spins, Star for 5 or Storm for 8.
How high can the multiplier go?
In the base game the drop multiplier rises with each drop and resets when the spin ends. In free spins it is carried from spin to spin and can reach x20.
What does each princess do?
Love transforms one set of symbols into another, Star adds one or two wilds, and Storm destroys two sets of symbols. In the base game a power may fire on a losing spin; in free spins the chosen princess acts on every non-winning spin.
What is the maximum win in Moon Princess?
Play'n GO caps the game at 5,000 times the stake. The provider puts the chance of reaching that cap at less than one in a billion spins, so it is a ceiling rather than a realistic goal.
Can you buy the bonus in Moon Princess?
No. The game has no bonus buy. Free spins are triggered only by clearing the whole grid, and they can be extended by filling the princess meter, up to 20 free spins in total.
What is the Princess Trinity feature?
Princess symbol wins charge a three-section meter. When it is full, you get one free round in which Love, Star and Storm use their powers in turn whenever a drop produces no new win.
