Start with South African law
The National Gambling Act 2004 makes it an offence to offer or play interactive games, online casino play included, without authorisation under South African law, and there is no licence an online casino can obtain here. In 2026 the National Gambling Board said so twice, adding that players can have winnings forfeited. Online betting is lawful only through a bookmaker licensed by one of the provincial boards. 1WIN holds no South African licence of either type. We set out its terms below purely for information. We do not encourage anyone to break local law, and we give no advice on VPNs or other ways past a block; 1WIN's rules ban them anyway and can void winnings for it.
Company, licence and coverage
Behind the brand is one account that opens a casino, a sports betting section and poker tables. The business launched in 2016 as FirstBet and was renamed 1WIN two years later. Its licence holder, 1Win N.V. (Curaçao company 147039), operates under licence OGL/2024/587/0621 from the Curaçao Gaming Authority. On the regulator's list published at the close of August 2026, that licence appears as granted in September 2025 with the status Assessment in progress. Payment processing sits with MFI Investments Limited, a Cypriot company.
According to 1WIN's partner material from September 2026, South Africa belongs to its group of African working countries, together with Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt and others, and ZAR is among the hundred-plus currencies in its site settings. South Africa is not part of the main-market group for which 1WIN promises its best local payment options, so what you can actually use is decided by the cashier inside your account.
The welcome deal in rand
There are four steps, one per deposit. Each step pairs a percentage top-up with free spins, and choosing crypto as your account currency lifts the percentage every time. Spins unlock only after the matching top-up for that step has been used, and the offer closes on the last night of December 2026.
| Step | Rand account | Crypto account | Top-up on a R1,000 deposit (rand / crypto) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deposit 1 | 100% + 70 FS | 130% + 70 FS | R1,000 / R1,300 |
| Deposit 2 | 120% + 100 FS | 140% + 100 FS | R1,200 / R1,400 |
| Deposit 3 | 130% + 150 FS | 160% + 150 FS | R1,300 / R1,600 |
| Deposit 4 | 150% + 180 FS | 170% + 180 FS | R1,500 / R1,700 |
| All four | 500% + 500 FS | 600% + 500 FS | R5,000 / R6,000 |
So four payments of R1,000 each, R4,000 in all, bring R5,000 of bonus on the rand track and R6,000 worth on crypto. No single deposit is ever multiplied by five; the 500% only exists as the four steps added together. Scale it down and the logic holds: R200 four times gives R1,000 of bonus on a rand account.
What the bonus is really worth
At our September 2026 check, the regular track carried no fixed rollover. Instead the money sits in a separate bonus wallet, and every day a portion is moved into your cash balance, calculated from your real-money slot losses on the previous day. Effectively it refunds part of what you lose, spread over time, rather than handing over a ready balance. Look at the bonus card in the Bonuses tab for today's percentages.
1WIN's general rules then add conditions for any casino bonus:
- Cash before bonus. Bonus money only becomes usable after your own balance reaches zero.
- No doubling up. One casino promotion can be active at a time, though a sports one may run alongside.
- Unsettled bets block it. While any real-money wager is still open, the bonus cannot be touched.
- Caps may apply. Individual promotions can limit the maximum win in their own rules.
- Spin winnings stay in slots and are wagered from the main account.
- Gaming the system costs you. Second accounts, risk-free betting patterns, exceeding the bet limit with bonus money or stalling rounds on purpose all lead to cancelled winnings.
A weekly refund of up to 30% on real-money slot losses also exists. It is played through once and arrives every Saturday at 09:00 South African time.
Aviator and the crash corner
Quick games, the crash and instant section, listed 231 titles in the July 2026 lobby snapshot. Spribe's Aviator is the headline act, joined by SmartSoft's JetX and Balloon, BGaming's Plinko, Pump It from 100HP Gaming and Lucky Jet, built by 1WIN itself. Every crash title here follows one idea: a multiplier begins at 1.00x and keeps climbing, and you are paid only if you cash out before it stops.
Take a R20 bet. Cashed out at 2.00x it returns R40; held until 10.00x it would return R200, but that target fails much more often. Aviator carries a 97% RTP according to Spribe, so over a huge number of rounds roughly R3 of each R100 bet stays with the game, whatever cash-out habit you follow. Anyone selling predictions for future rounds is running a scam.
Slots and live tables
That July snapshot counted 3,606 games in total, around 2,800 of them slots and 910 filed under Bonus buy. Suppliers included Hacksaw, Belatra, Microgaming, BGaming and Booming Games, along with the in-house 1win Games range. Studios block some countries, so the selection visible from South Africa may be smaller. Before playing a title like Sweet Bonanza for money, open its information screen and read the RTP line, because each operator picks from several versions. The live dealer area had 96 tables, Ezugi being one provider, and the sportsbook runs from the same balance.
Payments for a rand account
Card brands, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Skrill, AstroPay and MuchBetter appear in 1WIN's settings, together with more than a dozen coins led by Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tether. We found no mention of Ozow, SnapScan or instant EFT. 1WIN says the options vary by country, so log in to a rand account to see the real list, and keep in mind that South African banks may refuse card payments to offshore gambling sites.
The smallest deposit works out at about 5 to 10 USD converted to rand, by option, or around 5 USDT for certain coins. With USDT, make sure the cashier and your wallet use one and the same network. Our South Africa casino payments guide compares the local and international options.
How quickly withdrawals arrive
| Cash-out size | Timing under 1WIN's rules |
|---|---|
| Worth 50 USD or less | Inside an hour of asking |
| Worth more than 50 USD | Up to five days |
| Bank or processor delays | Up to three more business days |
You cannot withdraw until every deposit has been staked at least once, so R1,000 paid in means R1,000 of bets first. Money only goes back to accounts in your own name, and payments to or from family members or friends are refused. Any win over 50,000 USD can be split into individual daily payouts.
Verification documents
Sign-up is a single click, yet the profile must still hold a working email, and your name, mobile number and birth date have to agree with your ID and your payment method. 1WIN may check you at any point, and its rules say a check is likely once your withdrawals add up to more than 500 USD. Keep these to hand:
- A smart ID card, green ID book or passport.
- Proof of address dated within three months, for example a municipal account or bank statement.
- A statement for the bank account, card or wallet you use to pay.
- If you pay by card, a picture of it with all digits hidden except the opening six and closing four; masking the CVV is allowed too.
Scans need to be legible and in English or another accepted language. Getting verified early saves you from a frozen balance later.
App, data and support
On Android, 1WIN provides an APK on its official site; on an iPhone, you pin a web version to the home screen. Either way the account and bonuses are shared with the full site. Crash rounds use little data next to live dealer video, which helps on a prepaid bundle. Never install an APK that reaches you through a WhatsApp group or a Telegram channel. Help is available around the clock by live chat, which promises an answer in roughly two minutes, and also by Telegram, phone and the address support@1win.social. Formal complaints are decided within four weeks.
Responsible play
1WIN offers a short ten-question self-assessment, self-exclusion arranged through support for a minimum of one year with no early reversal, and permanent account closure. Fix a monthly ceiling that losing would not hurt, keep crash sessions brief and never play with money meant for rent, transport or school fees. The National Responsible Gambling Programme offers free counselling. 18+ only.
Our verdict
On the product side, 1WIN suits how many South Africans like to play: a rand balance, Aviator and Lucky Jet up front, and quick payouts on small sums. The headline bonus deserves a heavy discount because it is released from losses. The bigger issue is legal: online casino games are not authorised in South Africa, the Curaçao licence has not cleared its assessment and no South African regulator stands behind the site. Compare the alternatives in our South Africa casino comparison before deciding anything.
Questions from South African readers
Does 1WIN accept players from South Africa?
1WIN's own partner data lists South Africa among its African working countries, and it is not on 1WIN's restricted list. Note that online casino games are not authorised under the National Gambling Act and 1WIN holds no South African licence.
Can I keep a rand balance at 1WIN?
Yes, ZAR is available as an account currency. Choose it when you register, since that choice also sets your welcome bonus track and usually cannot be switched later.
What does the 1WIN welcome offer come to in rand?
A rand account gets 100%, 120%, 130% and 150% on its first four deposits, so R1,000 each time adds R5,000 of bonus and 500 free spins. On a crypto account the steps are 130%, 140%, 160% and 170%, worth R6,000 on the same deposits.
Does 1WIN take Ozow, SnapScan or instant EFT?
We found none of the three in 1WIN's published payment options, which cover cards, e-wallets such as Skrill and MuchBetter, and crypto. 1WIN says methods differ by country, so look at the cashier after logging in to a rand account.
How long do 1WIN withdrawals take?
Its rules give an hour for cash-outs worth 50 USD or less and up to five days for bigger ones, with as many as three extra business days possible on the bank side. Every deposit has to be staked once before a withdrawal.
What documents does 1WIN ask South Africans for?
A smart ID card, ID book or passport, proof of address from the last three months such as a municipal account, and a statement for your payment method. Card users may need a card photo showing nothing but the first six and final four digits.
Can South Africans find Aviator on 1WIN?
It is listed in Quick games next to JetX, Balloon, Plinko and 1WIN's in-house Lucky Jet, and Spribe states a 97% RTP for it. Use the free demo on our Aviator page to learn it, knowing that no cash-out habit alters the long-term return.
