Merge Up 2 Slot Review and Free Demo

Merge Up 2 is BGaming's 2025 sequel to its match-3 style hit: clusters of four or more merge into higher level symbols on a 6x6 grid, repeat wins double cell multipliers up to x128, and level 8 merges create bombs. It suits players who like a grid that builds within every spin.

Our verdict

Merge Up 2 gives the base game real tension because cell multipliers and bombs work on every spin, not only in free spins. The three bonus buys are clearly priced and the RTP is generous, but very high volatility means long quiet stretches before a big merge chain pays.

What we like
  • Cell multipliers double from x2 up to x128 in the base game too
  • Three buy options: 100x, 250x and 500x
  • RTP of 97% on the game page and 98% in the demo build
  • Up to 30 free spins from six or more scatters
Keep in mind
  • Very high volatility: dry runs are part of the design
  • Cell marks reset after every base spin
  • Bet limits and the RTP build depend on the casino

What Merge Up 2 is

Merge Up 2 is BGaming's follow up to the original Merge Up, released on October 28, 2025. The idea is borrowed from mobile merge puzzles: instead of simply vanishing, a winning group of symbols partly upgrades into the next symbol level. Keep a chain going and the grid climbs from the cheapest pastel candy to the top tier, then to a rainbow bomb.

The game runs on a 6x6 grid with cluster pays: four or more identical symbols touching horizontally or vertically form a win. BGaming rates it very high volatility and caps a single round at 10,000x the bet. The sequel moves the cell multipliers and bombs into the base game, which is the biggest change against the first title.

How a spin works step by step

  1. Pick your total bet. The demo server offers levels from 0.25 to 25 credits; your casino sets the real range.
  2. Thirty six symbols land. The game looks for groups of four or more identical neighbors.
  3. Each cluster is paid. Then some of its symbols disappear and the rest turn into the symbol of the next level.
  4. Every cell that held a winning symbol is marked. If a marked cell joins another win, it gains a x2 multiplier.
  5. Empty spaces refill from above, like a tumble, and the check repeats.
  6. When a level 8 cluster forms, it creates a bomb. The bomb clears the 8 symbols around it, pushes each of those cells one multiplier step higher and turns into a scatter.
  7. When nothing else connects, the spin ends. In the base game all marks and multipliers are cleared.

The order matters. A freshly earned multiplier does not boost the win that created it; it applies from the next winning cluster that passes through that cell. Multipliers inside one cluster are added together, not multiplied.

Symbol levels and paytable

The symbol ladder has eight paying levels, and the progression bar above the reels shows the order. Payouts depend on both the level and the cluster size. The values below come from the demo server's paytable and are shown as multiples of the total bet; the last column covers clusters of 12 or more.

Level45681012+
Level 8 (top)0.80x1.20x1.60x4x12x80x
Level 70.64x0.80x1.20x3.20x8x32x
Level 60.48x0.64x0.80x1.60x6.40x24x
Level 50.40x0.48x0.64x1.20x4.80x20x
Level 40.32x0.40x0.48x0.80x4x16x
Level 30.24x0.32x0.40x0.64x3.20x12x
Level 20.16x0.24x0.32x0.48x2.40x8x
Level 10.08x0.16x0.24x0.40x1.60x4x

Two things stand out. Small clusters pay very little, so the value of a chain lies in the upgrades and multipliers it leaves behind. And there is a big jump at 9 and more symbols: a level 1 cluster of 9 pays 0.80x, twice the 0.40x for 8.

Cell multipliers explained

Cell multipliers are the engine of the slot and follow the same logic as in Sugar Rush. A cell that is part of a winning cluster gets marked. The second win through that cell gives it x2, and every further win doubles it: x4, x8, x16, x32, x64 and finally x128, the cap per cell. Our sampling of the demo server showed exactly these doubling steps.

When a cluster covers several cells with multipliers, the values are added. A cluster passing over x2, x4 and x8 is paid at x14. Bomb blasts speed this up, because every cell cleared by a bomb moves one step higher without needing a win. For a deeper look at how added and multiplied boosts differ, see our multipliers guide.

Bombs and scatters

A bomb appears only one way: a winning cluster of level 8 symbols. It removes the 8 symbols around it, fresh symbols drop in, and each affected cell climbs one multiplier step, so x2 becomes x4. Then the bomb turns into a scatter.

That makes scatters partly earned. They can land naturally, but every bomb also leaves one behind. Count them at the end of the spin: 3 scatters award 12 free spins, 4 give 15, 5 give 20 and 6 or more give 30.

Free spins and a worked example

In free spins the same rules apply with one big difference: marks and multipliers stay for the whole round instead of resetting. Three or more scatters in one free spin add 5 more spins.

Here is how the numbers can play out at a 1.00 bet. Earlier spins have left a cell at x8 and a neighbor at x4. A level 6 cluster of 6 symbols passes through both. Its base pay is 0.80. The multipliers add to x12, so the cluster pays 9.60. Both cells now double to x16 and x8. If a later level 6 cluster of 6 crosses them again, it pays 0.80 times x24, or 19.20, without any bomb help. One bomb next to those cells would push them to x32 and x16 before the next win even forms. That compounding over 12 to 30 spins is where the 10,000x cap becomes reachable.

Bonus buy options and Chance x2

Where the casino allows it, Merge Up 2 offers three bonus buys. Prices below come from the demo server and are multiples of the bet.

OptionCostWhat you get
Bonus game 1100xStandard free spins round
Bonus game 2250xFree spins with x2 already in every cell
Bonus game 3500x3 to 9 bombs explode before the round, and their multipliers carry over

Bonus game 2 starts all 36 cells at x2, so the first wins already get a boost. Bonus game 3 is the most volatile: the number of bombs is random, and so is where their multipliers land.

Chance x2 is the game's ante style option. It raises the stake by 20 percent, so a 1.00 bet costs 1.20, and makes the bonus more likely to trigger. It cannot be used at the same time as a bonus buy. In the demo build every mode returns the same 98%, so the choice changes risk, not the long term rate.

RTP, volatility and max win

The BGaming game page lists an RTP of 97%, while the demo build we checked runs at 98% for spins, all three buys and Chance x2. That tells you more than one RTP version exists, so the figure in your casino's rules screen is the one that counts. Read our RTP guide for why a single point matters over thousands of spins.

Volatility is very high on BGaming's scale. The provider also quotes a hit rate of 3.40, meaning roughly one paying spin in three and a half, and a max win of 10,000x. The demo math block lists the chance of hitting that cap as 1 in 10,000,000.

How Merge Up 2 compares

If you like the marked cell idea but want a classic grid without the upgrade ladder, Sugar Rush is the closest match, and its spots work the same way across a whole bonus round. For a different BGaming cluster game with multipliers stuck to winning symbols instead of cells, see Fiesta Clusters. Merge Up 2's own twist is the upgrade ladder: even a small win changes the grid and nudges the next cluster toward a higher level.

How to test it in the demo

Use the free demo above to learn the rhythm before you stake real money. Our demo guide covers the basics. A few practical checks:

  • Open the rules and confirm the RTP line. If it shows a lower figure than 97%, you are on a different build.
  • Watch the progression bar during a long chain to see how often level 8 and bombs actually appear.
  • Try 100 spins with and without Chance x2 and compare how quickly your balance moves.
  • Set a session budget of at least 100 to 200 bets. With a 3.40 hit rate and very high volatility, a smaller bankroll can run dry before a single bonus lands.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RTP of Merge Up 2?

The BGaming game page lists 97%, while the demo build runs at 98% for normal spins, all three bonus buys and Chance x2. Casinos can use different versions, so check the RTP line in the game rules where you play.

How many free spins can you win in Merge Up 2?

Three scatters award 12 free spins, four give 15, five give 20 and six or more give 30. During the round, three or more scatters in one spin add 5 more free spins, and all cell marks and multipliers stay until the round ends.

How do the cell multipliers work?

A cell is marked when it is part of a winning cluster. The next win through it adds x2, and each further win doubles it up to x128. Several multipliers in one cluster are added together, and a new value applies from the following win.

How much does the Merge Up 2 bonus buy cost?

The demo server lists three options: 100x the bet for standard free spins, 250x for free spins with x2 in every cell, and 500x for free spins that start with 3 to 9 bombs. Availability depends on the casino and jurisdiction.

What is the max win in Merge Up 2?

The maximum payout is 10,000x the bet. The demo build lists the chance of reaching it as 1 in 10,000,000, so treat it as a ceiling rather than a target.

What does Chance x2 do?

Chance x2 raises the bet by 20 percent and increases the chance of triggering the bonus game. It cannot be combined with a bonus buy. In the demo build its RTP matches the base game at 98%.
