What Sweet 27 is
Sweet 27 is a Play'n GO slot released on 27 June 2017. The provider dresses a classic three-reel format in candy: sugar-coated fruit symbols, chocolate BARs and candy-striped 7s set against a landscape of lollipops and sugar hills. The name tells you the core rule. With three reels of three symbols, there are 3 x 3 x 3 = 27 possible left-to-right paths, and every one of them is active on every spin.
Play'n GO's official rules give an average RTP of 96.10%. The provider does not publish a volatility rating, a maximum win or a stake range outside the game, so we leave those to the rules screen rather than guess. What the rules do explain clearly is the one feature that defines the game: a rolling wild that brings free spins and a small multiplier.
How a spin works, step by step
- You set your total stake with the plus and minus buttons. All 27 ways are fixed, so the stake covers every path.
- The three reels spin and stop on a 3x3 grid.
- Way wins are checked from left to right. A win needs the same symbol on reel 1, reel 2 and reel 3, in any row.
- The wild can stand in for any symbol to complete a way.
- If a wild lands on reel 3, the rolling wild feature starts with 2 free spins.
- After a base game win you may choose the optional gamble before collecting.
There are no scatters, no tumbles and no bonus buy. A spin either pays through matching symbols across all three reels or it does not, and the only trigger to watch is a wild on the right-hand reel.
How 27 ways pay
A ways game does not use drawn lines. Instead, any symbol that appears on reel 1, reel 2 and reel 3, in any position, forms a winning combination. Our paylines and ways guide covers the idea in depth, but on a 3x3 grid it is easy to count.
If the same fruit symbol shows once on each reel, that is one way. If it shows twice on reel 2 and once on reels 1 and 3, that is 1 x 2 x 1 = 2 ways, and the win is paid twice. Two on reel 1, two on reel 2 and one on reel 3 make 2 x 2 x 1 = 4 ways. Stacks of the same symbol therefore multiply quickly even on such a small screen, which is where most of the base game value comes from.
Because three of a kind is the only winning length, there are no 4 or 5 of a kind prizes. Each symbol has one value for three of a kind, so the ways count does the heavy lifting. The exact amounts are shown in the paytable, which you can open from the menu before your first spin.
The rolling wild and free spins
The wild is the heart of Sweet 27. Anywhere on the grid it substitutes for other symbols and helps complete ways. When it lands on reel 3, it also starts the rolling wild feature:
- You receive 2 free spins.
- On each free spin the wild rolls one reel to the left, from reel 3 to reel 2, then from reel 2 to reel 1, and keeps substituting wherever it stands.
- If another wild lands during the free spins, the remaining count is topped back up to 2 by adding 1 or 2 spins, and the win multiplier rises by one.
- The multiplier cannot go above x3, and the feature can be retriggered at most nine times.
Play'n GO's own page sums this up as up to 20 free spins in a row: the first 2 plus nine top-ups of 2. In practice most rounds are short, because the wild walks off the grid after two spins unless a new one lands.
Worked example of a free spins round
Say you play at a 1.00 stake and a wild lands on reel 3. You get 2 free spins with no multiplier.
On the first free spin, the wild moves to reel 2. Two matching fruits on reels 1 and 3 now connect through it, in any rows. Suppose that spin pays 0.40. A second wild also lands, so your remaining spins are reset to 2 and the multiplier becomes x2.
On the next spin the original wild moves to reel 1. Ways wins worth 0.60 before the multiplier now pay 1.20. Another new wild appears, the count resets to 2 again and the multiplier reaches its x3 cap. If the following spin produces 0.50 of ways wins, it pays 1.50. No further wilds arrive, the last spin pays nothing and the round ends with 0.40 + 1.20 + 1.50 = 3.10, or 3.1x your stake.
Notice that the wild on reel 1 or reel 2 still counts for every way that passes through its position, so a rolling wild can complete several ways in one spin when the other two reels show stacked matches.
The lesson is simple: the multiplier only grows when new wilds land, and the round only lasts while they keep coming. A long chain is rare, and the x3 cap keeps even the best rounds modest.
The optional gamble
After any base game win you can try the gamble round. A card is dealt face down and you pick:
- Colour, red or black. The chance is 1 in 2, and a correct guess doubles your win.
- Suit, one of four. The chance is 1 in 4, and a correct guess quadruples your win.
You can gamble up to five times in a row. A 2.00 win gambled on colour becomes 4.00 or nothing; on suit it becomes 8.00 or nothing. The rules state that the gamble does not affect the overall RTP, so it changes the shape of your results, not their long-run average. It is switched off during Auto Play.
Stake sizing and session habits
Sweet 27 produces small, frequent outcomes, so bankroll habits matter more than any feature trick:
- Pick a stake that gives you at least a few hundred spins. With 50.00 and a 0.20 stake you have 250 spins.
- Use the gamble sparingly. Doubling a small win is fun, but a run of gambles turns a steady game into a coin toss.
- Keep the stake flat after losses. A wild on reel 3 has the same chance on every spin.
- Set a time and loss limit before you start, and stop when you reach either one.
If you want to understand why some games feel calm and others swing hard, our volatility guide explains it in plain terms.
How Sweet 27 compares
Next to modern candy slots, Sweet 27 is deliberately small. Sweet Bonanza uses a 6x5 tumbling grid and multiplier bombs, while Sweet 27 sticks to three reels and one wild. Within Play'n GO's own catalogue, Cash Pump also builds on 3x3 grids but runs four of them at once with copied wild reels and climbing multipliers. Choose Sweet 27 when you want a quick game whose rules you can learn in one spin.
Testing it in the demo and reading the rules
The free demo on this page runs on Play'n GO's practice server, so it uses the real rules and paytable. Before you play for money:
- Open the paytable and note what three 7s and three BARs pay, since those are the prizes the wild multiplier can lift.
- Check the RTP line in the rules. The official figure is an average of 96.10%, and your operator's build is the one shown there.
- Look at the minimum and maximum stake, which depend on the operator and currency.
- Play a hundred demo spins and count how often a wild reaches reel 3. That tells you how long you will typically wait for the feature.
Real-money play is for adults only. Set your budget in advance and treat the game as entertainment.

How do the 27 ways work?
Sweet 27 has three reels with three rows. Any symbol that appears on reels 1, 2 and 3 in any row forms a win, which gives 27 fixed ways. Extra copies of a symbol on a reel multiply the number of ways.
How do you get free spins in Sweet 27?
Land a wild on reel 3. That starts the rolling wild feature with 2 free spins, and the wild moves one reel to the left on each free spin while still substituting for other symbols.
What is the highest multiplier in Sweet 27?
The multiplier rises by one each time a new wild lands during free spins, and the rules cap it at x3. The feature can be retriggered up to nine times, for up to 20 free spins in a row.
How does the Sweet 27 gamble work?
After a base game win you can guess the colour of a hidden card to double the win, with a 1 in 2 chance, or its suit to quadruple it, with a 1 in 4 chance. You can gamble up to five times in a row.
Can you buy the bonus in Sweet 27?
No. Sweet 27 has no bonus buy. The rolling wild and its free spins can only be triggered by a wild landing on reel 3 during normal play.
