What Sweet Bonanza Xmas is
Pragmatic Play released Sweet Bonanza Xmas in November 2019, the same year as the original. The provider describes it as a festive makeover: familiar fruit and candy symbols with a frozen look, snow-capped sweets and a winter backdrop. Under the artwork the game is built on the same engine. It runs on a 6x5 grid, prices every spin on a 20-coin basis, and pays any symbol that appears 8 or more times anywhere on the screen.
That makes it an easy page to read if you know Sweet Bonanza: we checked the server paytable symbol by symbol and every value matches. What does differ is the label in the rules screen. Pragmatic tags this edition as medium volatility, described there as a game that pays out steadily with a range from low to very high.
How a spin plays out
- Pick a stake. The coin sizes available on the demo server give a base bet from 0.20 to 240, but the operator sets the real limits.
- Thirty symbols land. The game counts each symbol type across the whole grid, not along lines.
- Every type with 8 or more copies pays. Several types can pay on one spin.
- Winners disappear, the rest drop down and new symbols fall in from the top. This tumble repeats with no limit while new wins form.
- When the grid settles, all wins from the sequence are added to your balance at once.
This is a pay anywhere system: the 8 symbols do not need to touch. A long tumble that keeps adding copies of one symbol is the main way the base game produces bigger results.
Paytable
Nine symbols pay. The rules list them by artwork, so we label them by rank below. Values are multiples of the total stake for 8 to 9, 10 to 11, and 12 or more copies.
| Symbol rank | 8 to 9 | 10 to 11 | 12+ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top symbol | 10x | 25x | 50x |
| High 2 | 2.5x | 10x | 25x |
| High 3 | 2x | 5x | 15x |
| High 4 | 1.5x | 2x | 12x |
| Low 1 | 1x | 1.5x | 10x |
| Low 2 | 0.8x | 1.2x | 8x |
| Low 3 | 0.5x | 1x | 5x |
| Low 4 | 0.4x | 0.9x | 4x |
| Low 5 | 0.25x | 0.75x | 2x |
The step from 10 to 11 copies up to 12 or more is where the value sits. Low 1 climbs from 1.5x to 10x, Low 2 from 1.2x to 8x. At a 2.00 stake, ten Low 1 symbols pay 3.00, while twelve pay 20.00. Small hits, by contrast, often return less than the spin: eight of the lowest symbol give back a quarter of the stake.
Scatters and the free spins trigger
The scatter symbol can land on all six reels and pays wherever it appears:
- 4 scatters pay 3x and start 10 free spins.
- 5 scatters pay 5x and start 10 free spins.
- 6 scatters pay 100x and start 10 free spins.
During the round, 3 or more scatters add 5 more free spins, and this can repeat. The rules also note that special reels are used inside the feature.
Multiplier bombs with a worked example
Bombs appear only in free spins. Each one takes a random value from this list: 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 8x, 10x, 12x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x or 100x. A bomb does not pay by itself and stays on the grid until the tumble sequence ends. Then the game adds the values together and applies that total to the whole sequence win, as explained in our multipliers guide.
Take a 1.00 stake. A free spin opens with 8 High 4 symbols for 1.50. They tumble out and the refill brings 10 Low 3 symbols for 1.00. Nothing else connects, so the sequence is worth 2.50. Along the way three bombs landed: 4x, 12x and 3x. Their sum is 19x, and the sequence pays 2.50 × 19 = 47.50.
Now the same three bombs on a spin where no group of 8 forms: the payout is zero, because there is nothing to multiply. And a single 100x bomb on a sequence with 12+ High 2 symbols (25.00) turns it into 2,500.00 at the same stake. The bonus pays big only when a solid base win and a strong bomb total arrive together.
Double chance and bonus buy
The game offers two bet modes. With the standard 20x bet multiplier you can buy the bonus; with 25x you get double chance, and the buy disappears.
| Mode | Cost at 1.00 base stake | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Standard spin | 1.00 | Normal trigger rate, buy available |
| Double chance | 1.25 | More scatters on the reels, trigger chance doubled, buy disabled |
| Bonus buy | 100.00 | 10 free spins straight away |
Double chance works like an ante bet: a steady 25% surcharge for twice the trigger chance. The bonus buy charges 100x up front. A bought round can land well below its price, so treat it as one large bet with a wide spread of outcomes.
RTP, volatility and max win
Pragmatic lists the RTP at 96.48%. Operators may run other certified builds, and the rules screen shows the exact theoretical return for the version in front of you, including separate figures for the ante mode and the buy. The RTP guide explains why a few tenths of a percent matter over many spins.
The maximum win is 21,100x the stake. If a round reaches that cap, it ends immediately and any remaining features are forfeited. At a 1.00 stake that ceiling is 21,100.00.
Xmas versus the other Sweet Bonanza games
- Versus the original Sweet Bonanza: same grid, paytable, scatter prizes, bomb range, buy price and cap. The difference is the winter art and the 96.48% default figure on the provider page.
- Sweet Bonanza 1000 pushes bombs to 1000x and adds a 500x super buy.
- Sweet Rush Bonanza swaps bombs for multiplier spots that double up to x128.
If you want the classic formula and like the seasonal look, this edition delivers exactly that. If you want higher multipliers, the newer games are the better fit.
Testing it in the demo
Load the free demo and play 100 base spins at one stake. Count how many return at least the stake, then note how long the free spins take to arrive. Inside each bonus, track bomb totals and how often bombs land on a spin with no win. Switch on double chance for another 100 spins and compare the trigger count. Before any real play, open the rules screen and check the RTP line, the bet limits and whether the buy is enabled in your region. Set a loss limit for the session and keep it.
Bankroll notes
Medium volatility on the label does not mean the bonus arrives on schedule. Most of the value still sits in free spins, and the gap between two triggers can be long. Choose a stake that buys you enough spins to see several bonuses, not one. A practical check: if one 100x purchase would eat more than a fifth of your session money, the stake is too high for buying. With double chance on, remember that every spin costs 25% more, so the same budget covers fewer spins. Stop at your limit whatever the last round looked like.

Frequently asked questions
Is Sweet Bonanza Xmas different from the original?
Only in theme. The server paytable, scatter prizes of 3x, 5x and 100x, bomb values from 2x to 100x, the 100x buy and the 21,100x max win all match the original Sweet Bonanza. The rules screen labels this edition medium volatility, and the provider page lists a 96.48% RTP.
How do you win in Sweet Bonanza Xmas?
Land 8 or more matching symbols anywhere on the 6x5 grid. Position does not matter. Winning symbols vanish, new ones fall in, and the tumble keeps paying while new groups of 8 or more form.
How many scatters trigger the free spins?
Four or more scatters start 10 free spins. Four pay 3x, five pay 5x and six pay 100x the stake. In the round, 3 or more scatters add 5 more free spins.
How do the bombs work in Sweet Bonanza Xmas?
Bombs land only in free spins and take a value from 2x to 100x. They stay until the tumble sequence ends, then their values are added and the sum multiplies the sequence win. With no win in the sequence, bombs pay nothing.
What is the RTP of Sweet Bonanza Xmas?
Pragmatic Play lists 96.48%. Platforms can run other certified builds, so check the theoretical RTP in the game rules each time you open it on a new site.
What is the maximum win?
The cap is 21,100x the stake. When a round reaches it, the round ends at once and the remaining free spins are forfeited.
How much is the bonus buy?
Buying 10 free spins costs 100x the total stake, so 100.00 at a 1.00 bet. The buy is only available in the standard bet mode and disappears when double chance is on.
